What do you have locally? At $40 you have some good options. The Evo is great at 20 but only ok at 40. PS: a second fan is mostly needed if the case fans are not good enough. Most times the exhaust is right near the back of the cooler so either the case or cooler can have the second fan smile.gif

I have seen an old TRUE for sale here for about 20 with a bonus fan. Its old and not the #1 any more, and too big or you, but at $20!

Locally I have MicroCenter. The EVO is $32 and change with tax there. That's realy the only decent cooler they seem to carry.

The True Spirit 120M is $38 shipped at SuperBiiz.

Other than that, look at the Respire T40, ETS-T40, or Logysis/Deepcool Gamer Storm.

The evo has a max TDP of about 180W (according to them) and that seems about right. The i7 3770K 3.5GHz is 77W. That gives you a lot of OC room on the Hyper. You wont get much more than that until you go to coolers with much bigger fins or new (and expensive) fin tech. If you are going for a max OC or trying to push it to limits you would need more. 4.2 should be easy for you and 4.5 depending on the chip and case and... and... etc.

So yes, you can find a bit better. But save $ and buy the evo local. If you find a better deal later, you can then return it if needed wink.gif

The Enermax ETS-T40 can be had for the same price as the Hyper 212, performs a little better, and runs quieter (it also can cool up to a TDP of 200W). I haven't seen the max TDP for the NZXT Respire T40, but in the testing I've seen of it at the likes of HiTechLegion, it's also better performing and quieter than the Hyper 212. The Deepcool/Logysis Gamer Storm/Alpenfohn Matterhorn generally outpaces the Hyper 212 in testing while being around the same price. Lastly, the Thermalright True Spirit 120M outperforms the Hyper 212 in the testing I've seen while also being dramatically quieter and only costing a little more.

The Hyper 212 is good and all, I think people like me are just sick and tired of it being the go to heatsink when there are better performing and quieter heatsinks for the same price.

I have used the CM212 and would higly recommend it (like a zillion other people)
Before you get a second fan for the EVO, make sure it will clear the ram. You might need to mount the fan on the opposite side of the ram.
Also, keep your eyes on Newegg. I recently picked up the fan used on the cooler for $6 after mir. Not bad for a pwm fan.

I got a hyper 212 plus. It's was $30 shipped, and it's made a huge difference. Sitting at 4.3ghz never went over 58c in 12 hours of prime 95. I'd am sure I could overclock higher, I just don't think my psu would cut it.

I was sorta expecting this response. But at the same time he does suggest some good coolers. If you can find them, go with any of them. My point was mostly that local is better than shipped most times if you get a better price and same performance. That said, I think the EVO is not as good a deal as the plus if the plus can be found for $20. $35 is a bit much.

Sound is a factor here, I do not want my computer making much sound since afterall this is a server and not a gaming PC. Maybe I'll wait for a deal on the True Spirit 120/140.
