Will I get 5ghz using a Noctua NH-D14 on an i7-3770k? - Page 3

You might just have a crappy chip. The worst one I tested wouldn't boot 4.6 @ 1.35V either, but that was only 1 out of 7 that I tested from the same batch.

here is what I would do, delid immediately, using liquid pro or ultra. mount that nh-d14 and start overclocking without worrying about temps. the worst out of the 5 3770k's I had could do 4.6@1.424. with my chip now I am stable at 4.9 with 1.45v but I usually run 4.7ghz with slightly les than 1.3v. even at 4.9 and 1.45v delided my temps max at 87c in prime/ibt.

Just a bit of an update guys, I did end up getting the D14, and was stable 4.7ghz @ 1.32v. My temp during this was in the low 80s after an hour of prime. I could boot to 4.8 but that BSOD after a second of prime. Increasing the voltage would probably result in 90s which is getting a bit too hot.

I haven't delidded it - nor do I plan to. I'm running 4.6 now @ 1.29 and thats plenty for me.

it comes down to how good the chip is.

I would say no.

Delidding is easy-peasy man... a kid can do it... biggrin.gif (Seriously)

4.6GHz @ 1.29 V isn't bad at all

Maybe some day in the future when I see the need for it I will, but until then, considering this CPU is already a beast at stock and an overkill at 4.6, I don't think there is any rush.
