True but it will help multitasking a lot and with the 16gb hes still under budget so I can justify the upgrade its up to him though.

I'm not looking to multitask at all I'm going to be hardcore gaming so personally I cannot justify 16 GB of memory

I would recommend spending a fair amount on GPU.
will result in superior gaming experience.

Radeon HD 7870 XT (Tahiti based cards) or HD 7950 are a lot of bang for the buck.
They both overclock very well. Paired with a FX-6300 @ 4.7GHz
you will have a pretty high end gaming machine.

for a $1500 build, i recommending getting the best cpu for your budget, I think you should spend more on core components than on accessories. You should step up to fx-8150/8350 : ).
