So...where's the 700 series news

Thread Starter
I haven't really been able to find much about the 700 series other than people speculating last year that we should wait a year til march 2013 to expect anything. Well now the time's here and no real news that I'm seeing. I'm really curious before I drop $300-400 on a year old card that is rarely ever on sale nowadays. Apparently gtx 670's were selling around $330 after MIR a month or two ago and everything is back to $390+. So why bother now if 700 series is around the corner? News about possible dates anyone? Or is the round two of kepler scrapped and they're going straight to maxwell?.

Well not sure how accurate this is but it seems they have info on all of the 750/750ti/760/760ti/770/780 and claims date estimated june 1st.
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/1856/NVIDIA_GeForce_GTX_770.html

Looks like a boost to the render config and memory on the 770. Is that minor or big?

I wonder if it's worth waiting for. Do you think each card will launch at the same prices as it did last year?

According to that, the GTX TITAN should be more powerful than the GTX 780?

I don't think anyone here knows the details of the 700 series but rumor has it that they won't be released until sometime around the end of the year or perhaps even at the start of next year. Who knows?

One thing we do know for sure is that the Titan was just released and is selling very well. It would be a poor marketing decision for them to announce or release the 700 so shortly after Titan.

I would imagine the MSRP are the same as they've always been every generation. Expect major shortages the first 3-4 months with scalpers controlling a lot of the sales.

It would make absolutely no sense if the 780 was more powerful or just as powerful as the Titan. That is a premium card that carries a premium price tag. Anyone who owns that should be entitled to having the fastest single-gpu Nvidia card for the next couple of years.

^this.

And with nvidia having the problems with drivers these days they are probably working on that untill the next release. The cards now will play any game, so with the next gen consoles and more demanding games they will have, it only makes sense for them to hold off for now.

But the Titan is a $1000 card and is rather irrelevant for most consumers. I don't think introducing the 700 series would necessarily hurt sales on either side because it is such a specialized product.

2014 is supposed to be maxwell architecture so I do think 7000 will be sometime this year. According to Techpowerup it will be June, but I have no idea where they got all that info from.

if thats the 770 with 1728 cuda cores, one could postulate that the 780 has 1920 cuda cores, thats a gain of 384 cuda cores from the 680...

if the 680 is 40 percent slower than the titan this one could be about 20 percent slower than a titan....

meaning one could overclock the 780 far enough to bite at the heals of the Titan....

hope the 780 is 700 bucks.

Your question would best be answered by AMD. Since Nvidia will be waiting on AMD's next move either right before their next launch or to counter act just a bit after. According the buzz/rumor mill AMD is looking at December 2013 / Jan 2014 for next series.

At launch we can speculate the 780 will entertain the $500 price range. Not even going to speculate on specs etc. I have a feeling we can conservatively say about 20-30% more performance than current 680.

Either two non-reference 780's or 8970's for $1000 next year going in a new X99 build around March 2014 sounds about right timing for me. smile.gif

If the 780 is 700 bucks nvidia will be robbing you blind, a what 28-30% price premium increase vs series release last yr? ir bwttwe not go above 550-600 unless they want a whole lot of people to move to amd after that $300 dollar price tag on the 7970 ghz looks better when prices drop in july
