ADDED! We are so close to the big 2 0 lol Once Lutfij gets his orders in we will be that much closer thumb.gif

For the folders in the thread will anyone be folding on Compact Splash? I have always wanted to fold but never knew how to get started with it. But is Compact Splash really the best case to be doing it in?

Hey Golfer,, my plan is to fold - 24/7. Have a asrock z77itx, with a 2500k, and 7870, running right now.
Am looking at getting a 3570k perhaps with splash to lower my wattage a bit. Dunno though.

As to whether CS is the best case to fold in,,, i guess it depends, if your like me and want something small and compact that can also water cool then yes! However if your wanting to run multiple gpus then you have to go m-atx or bigger.

Still I have enjoyed greatly folding on my little machine, and am really looking forward to getting splash going.

Interesting very interesting I think once CS comes I will start folding on it then. I have heard from a few friends that it raises your power bill by a lot but he is running one hell of a big system with TEC cooling and everything. With a smaller rig like this do you really notice it at all?

also I have another question lol

So I am looking into fans and currently have 2 Gentle Typhoons at 1150 RPM and they are too loud for me. With CS I ordered the ModRight 3-way 3-pin fan splitter and plan on using it.
My question is with all 3 fans going into this splitter will it be slowing down the RPM's on my fans since the power will be split? If I am not mistaken it will barely make a difference as there is no resistor on it but if I buy some kind voltage resistor and plug that into the splitter than into my mobo will this slow down all my fans?

Concerning the power bill. The way my utilities are factored as long as I stay under 250kWh it is only .034 cents an hour, which = 81 cents a day = 24$ a month, per a 30 day month. So not so bad at all. thumb.gif
Now if I go above 250kWh the cost is double mad.gif. Often when I turn my fans up, and clockup the gpu I will go over 250kWh (thus my interest in the 3570k , for its 77W, which with my overclocks I am hoping will drop me back down below 250kWh).

Now on to 3 fan splitter. From what I have read the splitter will not slow down your fans, unless it has something inline that will reduce the voltage. I have read of several people who have 3 fans running off of one splitter with no problems, and others with problems. I guess it all comes down to whether or not your motherboard fan header can handle it. Which it probably can.

And yes a voltage resistor will slow down all the fans that are attached behind it.

You could try setting a profile in your bios for the fans, like putting them on low rpms until a certain temp is reach, then they ramp up. I had mine (two gentle typhoons same as yours, and a coolermaster 200) like that before I got my controller and they were whisper quiet. Honestly I kinda regret getting the controller.

Hope that is helpful.thumb.gif

Gentle Typhoons are so damn energy efficient that I highly doubt a splitter will slow them down. You can run two or three of these on less than 1W at 1400-1800rpm.

I would not say that the Compact Splash is a good folding case. My reasoning is that it cannot support multiple GPUs, so it'll never be the heavy cruncher a dedicated setup is, and it is too damn nice looking to stick a single-GPU-folding setup in, set it up, and ignore it while it churns away. To me, it is an excellent primary system case. Save the folding for an mATX or ATX case where you can put in a corner, stick 2 or more GPUs in and let 'em run. Much of it will honestly depend on how you want to fold (if you want to just stick in old GPUs, use low-power GPUs, SLI super-crunching GPUs, etc.).

Golf, keep in mind that #2-5 are one person. I vote we call him "Mystery Man".

This is super helpful! I didnt really feel that the splitter would reduce the speeds but I know a voltage resistor of some sorts would for sure. I never really thought about the Bios control as I just always assumed that you needed PWM fans to do it but I will look into it for sure! and if it doesnt work I plan on getting like a $2 resistor when I buy my watercooling gear to slow them down that way thumb.gif

Hmmm Compact Splash is my primary system but I guess a folding specific set up would be alot better. I think my friend might have a mATX board lying around, I got my PSU from my current build, possibly a hard drive from my current, and I should even have a 560ti when ever I upgrade, maybe I could put something together then! Would have to find a CPU of some sorts though thinking.gif

And I didnt actually know about the guy who bought 002-005 I hope "Mystery Man" drops by so that he can be added multiple times to the list thumb.gif
