blast from the past.

For me , wing commander 3 and four were the best story's in a pc game I have ever experienced. You cannot beat actual actors on the screen with a solid story. IF they did a rehash with better graphics i would still pay full price. Guess I have to wait for Star Citizen.

Mass effect was brilliant with a rich mix of sub stories to go with the epicness of it all.

I didn't mind COD MW1 when it came out. A pretty engaging story that has been retold with each iteration and thus become boring for me.

Dishonored was OUT there but engaging much the same as Bioshock.

Crysis has a real good build up to the overall story, or maybe it was the atmosphere and the boss weapon you are wearing. Either way I loved it. Didn't like Cry2 just didn't have that....'predator' feel to it.

WC3 still holds a special place in my heart. I wish they just did the bloody movie without changing the actors.

Hey guys, does anyone know what kind of story Dark Souls has ?
As Lord Xeb covered most of the RPG-type games I was thinking of (I'd add the Disgaea games to the running, but are they story driven? Their storylines are great, though...) I'll go down a different route to point 'n' clicks...

Sam 'n' Max Hit the Road
Broken Sword
Broken Sword II
Grim Fandango
Monkey Island 1 & 2

Lots of others, but these are the 'classics' for me.

Spec Ops: The Line has to be one of the greatest story games in a long time. Behind the large wall of an average modern shooter, Spec Ops hides a great story that some how accidentally incorporates a psychological horror into a Third Person Shooter.

mass effect 1, mass effect 2, mass effect 3. x100000000000000000000000. dont listen to the haters about the me3 ending. it makes sense about what happened at the end of me3. every other "story driven game" pales in comparision to mass effect. the writing is absolutely amazing and its the only game to really capture me emotionally.

in the spoiler i explain to the people why me3 ending made sense. dont click if you havent done it yet wink.gif
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
it made sense for shepard to die/specific races to die because its a little bit of dark humor/irony..all the work shepard did, and he/she died when it was done. the citadel DLC gives the proper farewell though.

I LOVE story driven games...

Alan Wake is an awesome game where the story develops very organically right in front of you. The atmosphere the world builds through sights and sounds is really unparalleled to any game I've played recently. Lots of fun Easter eggs to look out for, too (keep an eye out for QR codes in the game)! smile.gif

World in Conflict, which probably wouldn't have come to mind if I hadn't read it earlier, but the single player is awesome in terms of story. Being on the west coast, it was bone chilling to see a story like this one play out so close to home in towns I recognize. I had to laugh at myself though, I got so excited when the Oregon Air Guard got called in towards the beginning of the story... Nothing in video games ever happens in Oregon! redface.gif Synopsis: really cool RTS gameplay (love the air strike and artillery system), and an excellent story.

Mass Effect 2 was very well done, never played 3 and haven't finished 1. The first one was harder for me to get into; it started very slowly. The second one was perfectly paced and was really pretty gripping to play through the entire time. Was a little disappointed in how abruptly the game ends, but by no means a deal-breaker.

Half-Life 2... No real need to elaborate there.

I'll stop there for now... smile.gif
