Help me convince my sister there are better options then Beats - Page 7

Some headphones are forgiving, some are not. The Grado RS1 for example is not at all forgiving, but the PS500 is. Yet, the RS1 is ambient and airy with more focus on the upper region, lacking bass quantity, but the PS500 is bassier with more polite upper regions. So, its all about "the headphone you choose" and that is the best advice I can give anyone looking for headphones. I completely agree, the $200 tier is the sweet spot for enjoying lower quality birate. But, thats my opinion and not based on fact, but more so my decades of experience on the matter. My favorite headphones are all in the mid tier range, and most of them are very well rounded, very efficient and easily driven. The more expensive headphones get into the reference quality realm and end up being specialists most of the time.

256KBPS on the $200 Grado 225i = enjoyable

256kbps on the $1500 Sennheiser HD800 = horrendous and PAINFUL

The reason is the specialist unforgiving drivers that are insanely responsive to static pops, haze, background noise and piercing highs often found in lower birate tracks. However, there are some expensive headphones that are forgiving. A very expensive and forgiving headphone would be the Audeze LCD3 ( the LCD2 is not forgiving ) and the Fostex TH900. Both of which handle some of my lower quality tracks extremely well! It is all in the model you choose and is heavily dependant on source and amplification. If your source and amplifier are forgiving, the chances of your expensive headphone handling the lower quality tracks to at least an enjoyable level are pretty good. But, you will still get a haze and a number of other problems. For the lower quality stuff I tend to reach for my Grado PS500. It is one of the most forgiving headphones I've ever come across and scales up to tremendous levels with proper amplification and higher quality music.

The Dr. Dre Beats of the Head-fi world. Really. Just as overpriced the Mad Dogs are.

You must understand that Beats are made from very cheap dynamic drivers that cost less than $10 to produce, yet are sold for $300 to the consumer.
Monoprice makes a set of $22 headphones that outperform all Monster Headphones to date, including the very expensive Beats Pro and Executive.

I would need objective proof of this.
I personally know the markup of headphones are very good. I have little doubt the 'mid-tier' headphones are $50 drivers. I know the markup well but however the above needs objective measurements to be shown, particularly the last sentence.

Also the FA-003 is exactly the same as the cheaper Jaycar Pro Monitor headphones.

I don't know...I've heard some pretty good things about them. Alpha pads sweeten the deal even more now.

measurements don't show they're even worth close to the price Mr. Speakers is asking for them.

I never look at measurements though. I just hear things from Head-fiers who's opinion I trust.

Here's another fun fact. Guess who DOESN'T use beats to listen to audio. Dr. Dre himself. You can find pictures of him in his recording studio using Sony's. I've even seen 1 of him wearing Sennheiser, you know when I see him wearing Beats? When he's in a public place where he knows paparazzi are and those who are putting his pictures in magazines.

the idea for the headphones was his lawyers. basically walked up to dre and told him they start a headphone brand. i mean why not use his name to make millions doing nothing. he doesn't even make music anymore. all the does is tease the public about releasing an album but really just using the music to sell headphones. smart move if you ask me. using videos to sell albums. he probably makes way more money branding headphones than the headache that comes with making music...
