GTX Titan shutting down my machine

Thread Starter
Since installing the Titan, I've been running into an issue where my machine will suddenly turn off during graphically intensive games and reboot. After running Crysis 3 fine, I began to experience this issue while play SC2. I had fiddled with some setting in the Nvidia control panel which I reset to default and the issue went away. It has since returned, occurring every time I play SimCity, with an irregular period of time between starting the game and the machine shutting off. I isolated the power for the PC with an extension cord and monitored system temperatures during gameplay and neither seems to be the culprit. I pulled the Titan and put my GTX 570 back in and the problem went away so now, in my mind, it's either the card or the power supply. My power supply is a Corsair HX750.

Can anyone offer any insight?

The PSU is way more than enough for your system and the Titan, so it might be the Titan.

Try to isolate the problem by trying another PSU, 750 watts is way more than enough for a single Titan, and it's a quality one too. If with another PSU and the titan the problem is still there, then it's the titan.

I'm having the same issue. I have an Ultra X3 1000watt PSU. I noticed the issue is more prominent when I crank my fan speed up on the Titan. If I play at default fan speeds, I can recall any sudden PC shutdown issues. But yes, it literally shuts off as if the power in the house just went out. It's that abrupt! I have two Titans and the issue happens with one installed or both. I didn't even think it could be the Titan card that has issues though. I was just under the impression they were power hungry cards? The crash happens during ENB heavily modded Skyrim.

I think I'll try one Titan or another and see if maybe just 1 of the Titan cards has issues. I have changed the firmware from the stock one on each card but the same issues repeat.

Sory for going off topic but that Ultra X3 PSU you have how old is that?

I was having the same problems when I played sc2 heart of the swarm campaign. I would get to the cutscene at the beginning of one of the evolution missions and it would shut off at the exact same moment. My only solution at the time was to reload a slightly older save and then it would work. However the problem did persist at other times. I did some research and saw that increasing my VTT (I believe it effects power to memory and/or pci-e slots) voltage may help and it did. My pc will no longer shut off when playing sc2 hots. Recently however, I did see it happen one time while playing warframe.

Also, all of this is with my titan under water.

I also have a i7 2700k , titan, and Hx750 power supply if that means anything

Any resolution on this? I'm having the same issue on a brand new Dell Precision T3600 with the 635W factory power supply when running under load in 3ds Max 2014. I haven't been able to isolate the issue, but I'm fairly certain it's not power supply or heat: I ran the GPU at 100% for two days straight with the distributed.net client just to test.

Card: Asus GTX Titan
Computer: Dell T3600, 3.6ghz Xeon E5-1620, CORSAIR Vengeance 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600, OCZ Revodrive 3 x2 PCI Express 2.0 SSD.

did you connect it with one cable and two connectors on it or did you take 2 cables for every
power connector slot for the gpu?

this solved my problem with my sli..

2 cables with 4 connections = freeze / shutdown

4 cables with 4 connections = flawless

had the exact same problem with the exact same power supply, so I bought a Corsair AX1200i and I havent had a restart since.
