But you see what I mean. Top 10 makes half of points.
Instead of spending forum money for small prizes, like $25.
We can support TOP 10 folders that have knowledge, space and low (than average) maintenance for systems like that.
Just focus in part where it is already working.

Your hole team consists of about 10 people and random pieces of hardware from other people.

= Work for = Points hasn't really been implemented yet.

Just going to 2P will have impact. We just need to get 16+ and bonus.
Dual Socket G34 for Bigadv WU, I think i more reasonable than SR-2, as you have way to upgrade to newer CPUs.
Maybe 3930K...

I wish I had the money to build a 2p/4p rig. If anyone needs a place to set one up, my work has told me I can setup a server in the office and use their electricity.

I've been trying like crazy to recruit friends, my works actual production servers and asked if they would let me know if they ever retire a server so I can get it and fold.

Yeah it's too bad that Coremageddon never amounted to anything. Without any incentive (prizes) it seems like people aren't as inclined to make the larger investment. If you shifted some of the prize money to Coremageddon you might see more people sign up. Not sure though.

I'd make to sure complete the WUs with plenty of time to spare in case they release some new WUs or they tighten up the requirements else you might up with a fast SMP machine.

The total cost of my 2P was around $1,300 with higher-end chips.

These are the cheapest routes for a 2P/4P, AFAIK:

1) AMD 4P w/ 6128s

6128s - $50 x4 = $200

SM board = $600

----------------------------------

Total = $800

2)Intel E5 Xeon ES 2P w/ 2650s

2650s - $200 x2 = $400

Most boards = $400

----------------------------------

Total = $800

They average about the same ppd. The main difference is the 2P can be used in Windows 2-3 years later as a daily rig, the 4P can only be used in Linux or Win Server. Most boards can be run with a single processor, which allows you to save and purchase 1 or more later. It's not for everyone but if you're running 2-3 gpus and 1-2 cpus for F@H then this is the most economical route.

Disclaimer

These numbers are not 100% accurate but are pretty close.

I see you bought the ASUS Z9PE-D8 WS for your 2P, did you consider any other boards or is that about the best for a 2P Xeon 2011? Are there any others that come to mind that would perform as good?

And don't forget the 4x CPU coolers. 4x the normal DRAM sticks to populate enough channels for each CPU and DRAM prices are going up. Enough of a power supply as OCd 4ps can pull 700-1100W. And don't forget those boards don't fit in most cases.

Also if you're going 4p, you're going for the QRB so there's no point in going half way. Extra OCing scales much better than normal a4 units.
