Your post doesn't apply to what I said. You buy a product, as a consumer you have rights. Period. Doesn't matter if it's a game or a washing machine.

Dear EADF,

What are your excuses for this?

Check the top left corner.
Quote:
Well, Maxis' Lucy Bradshaw has responded to this DRM food fight, sort of. Earlier comments on the always-on connection attributed it to the fact Maxis is building what it considers to be a multiplayer game. To this, Bradshaw adds the always-on connection is necessary because there's an enormous amount of cloud computing required to power this game, billed as the most advanced in SimCity's history. It's not something your individual PC will be able to handle on its own, not when the cloud servers are handling up to 100,000 Sims inside each city.

Please explain why the game is running offline, without the necessary and magical server calculations required to play the game.

If the always-on connection is necessary because there's an enormous amount computing required to play the game, why is the game still running while not being connected to the servers?

Need I remind you, server saves can be done on my PC. Some of us aren't interested in interacting with other cities around us, or in fact, we'd like to play the game IF and WHEN the servers are not available.

I look forward to your excuses.

Yours truly,

2010rig

Since the game is playing OFFLINE, it's possible to have 1 player OFFLINE mode that is NOT DEPENDENT on the servers. Go ahead, tell me it isn't possible and be sure to back up your statement with proof. rolleyes.gif

I posted PROOF that it's POSSIBLE, yet you call me a liar.

Ars Technica - Fans, press uncover massive holes in SimCity’s AI, server connection

Make sure to also read the promoted comment by Xavin, I just laughed at the end.

Edit: Hey Grizzle, instead of making always the same point that dodges the main question, why don't you counter this (credit to DoctorGonzo from Ars Technica):

Quote:
EA has presented two, conflicting rationales for two of SimCity's inherent drawbacks:

1). The game must be online because much of the complex simulation is offloaded to EA's servers.

2). The city sizes are so tiny because older computers couldn't handle the demands of simulating larger cities.

Now, the first point fails to make sense when you consider the bandwidth and processing demands involved with running hundreds of thousands, if not millions of instances of SimCity remotely.

The second point concedes the first point is untrue. Furthermore, SimCity 4 handled much larger cities working in a regional context without breaking the computers of ten years ago. Even with a new simulation engine, you're still looking at a decade's worth of advancement in processing power separating the two games.

The sad thing is, even if SimCity were hands-down the best SimCity game ever, the servers would be closed in a few years anyway. People are still buying new copies of SimCity 4 to this day, but this reboot of the franchise means that once SimCity 2 (Part Deux) arrives, the game we have now will simply evaporate back into the cloud.

If the game is running for any extent of time OFFLINE then the game is being run client side without the aid of any servers. In other words, the simulation is RUNNING COMPLETELY ON YOUR OWN HARDWARE.

Disproving any comment about the game *needing* servers to run in the first place.

If the game truly relied on the servers to run, once you lose the connection, it should pause the game until connection is restored or times out, not let you keep playing.

Read this quote:
The statement is a lie.

The game has only ever been marketed as an online multiplayer game, with the option to run a private region that is still online.

Cloud computing is necessary for online games that simulate regions on remote servers, despite your current city being run locally.

Especially when the smaller city sizes mean region play (which is not local) is more important and is run by their servers.

Especially when the game was intended to be played with other people in your region, which Is how many people are playing the game,

Meaning that the simulation in your region is also running on OTHER peoples machines.

Sure the game doesn't need the servers to "run" the game if you intend to not ever build more than one self reliant city that ceases to exist once you close the game, but if you actually intend on building up a region, the servers that run that region (as well as actually save your game) are necessary.

People can say what they like, but Maxis has always maintained that the game was intended to be a game played alongside other people and that your experience was to be connected with other people in a number of ways, which would require internet connection and server side syncing.

They never stated anything different.
