DRM issues aside, there's a slew of problems that plague the game (EA forum notwithstanding). The AI issue seems to be the most outstanding one.

Because the topic of discussion was the validity of the unknown source for the article. I was saying Notch's quote doesn't help the validity of the source.

And if the devs needed notch to send a tweet telling them that their own game that they made can work offline (even though he's wrong and it can't), then there would be no hope left anyway.

Unnamed source that worked not works on the project. rolleyes.gif

I can't find this valid having watched the game's simulation fall to pieces after losing connection with my own eyes (the game keeps going, but you really want to pause if it's around a rush hour, bad things happen). And yes, patching a single-city single player is only a matter of a greatly reduced logic tree for sims. But on a single-city level the game is lacking, it's the interactions and specializations of different cities that gives the game its depth. Beyond that, you're not building a city past ~30k or so without regional help.

I'm sure what he wanted Maxis to do was make it so that you're immediately kicked out of games if your internet drops. I'm sure that would have stopped him from making smartguy tweets.....

Perhaps, but if you consider his comment as a 'smartguy tweet', what is EA's COO's comment you posted other than coming down to the same supposed level of "shoddy website journalism recipe", when it is patently clear that whoever worked on the project would obviously not want to be named and the confidentiality of the source is one of the cornerstones of journalism ? He could have denied it, referred to previous occasions where said sites were wrong before, but he chose to just lose his temper. And I'm saying "chose" because I don't for one minute believe he is genuinely offended, this offended virgin type of comment doesn't stick when it comes from EA. After so many years of experience from their own games and others, they didn't learn a thing about provisioning proper server infrastructure, which would be needed to play the game, and he's playing the offended card because he thinks the article is fake ? Please.

1.
That was a quote from the latest "DEAD SPACE IS DEAD" debacle.

2.
He didn't lose his temper, he told the truth lol.

A gaming site asked for confirmation on a rumour. They were told they would not give comments on rumours, and the gaming site went and published the article asserting they had confirmation on the rumour.

That's good journalism is it rolleyes.gif

No, the topic of this discussion was whether SimCity really needs the servers to operate. Apparently not, according to a comment from Kotaku:
Quote:
this was my method of forcing the game to play offline

I played for hours offline and at first nothing was authorized. it played like a pirated game, content was missing and buttons were gone and tools and buildings and options were gone. after 30 mins or so I noticed the connection to servers connect and disconnect, but It was a workaround that let you play offline without getting kicked. so for an hour and a half I played normally. cut off my internet and continued playing..

The ONLY calculations that the servers do is authorize content to prove legitimacy, and update region cities once every 5 minutes. It's allows for sending of utilities at a timely manner. thats it. If the servers go down I've noticed that my city will instantly die because It's not getting its shared energy or water etc..

I've stopped playing indefiniatly, far to many bugs in the AI and actual game that dwarf the server issues.

The people who I replied to in this thread were talking about the validity of the source.

With enough complaints you would imagine that even the crappiest company ever would oblige its customers. Apparently their public image means absolutely nothing to them though so that wont happen. Wondering how many years in a row they can be voted the worst company.

For those who don't know, the game has already been cracked. So no, it is not a bit more complicated, it is just pure lies and pure DRM.

Wait, so you're telling me that you posted an unrelated picture on this thread without saying anything at first ? What was your intention ? Defend EA even before they did it ?

I'm glad you cleared it, not everybody is on par about some other debacle relating to EA (there are many to choose from), so proper context is important. We wouldn't want to influence people with out of context pictures, would we ?

oh and of course, for being DRM, and CLAIMING it's for "complex calculations" of the individual sims.

I was watching a review of it. They said the sim's ai is completely stupid and follows a very simple "shortest path" routine. So what ends up happening, is most roads NEVER get used and get massively congested because every sim will use the shortest path possible, even if it takes the longest time.

clearly there are no complex calculations involved.

There are criminals in the city. You would expect the police to respond as such: dispatch 1 unit. Instead, the dumbest police force in the world sends (literally) every car at one criminal when there are more crimes going around the city.

I thought this was pretty amusing.

Once I realized he never adds anything substantial to any discussions, I just ignored him.

One Kotaku reporter running the game for 19 minutes offline before being booted isn't remotely conclusive of anything. End of story.
