Good thing? Bad thing? Who knows? But I'd bet a pretty penny that's what's going to happen. But then, that's like predicting the sun rising tomorrow.

Oh, I feel ya on that. I'm certain that it'll happen that way too. I wish it didn't, just don't think people really care about how things are done anymore. Most wouldn't even notice that, or think about it. Heck, you haven't seen a journalist article about it yet. Who knows though, lets just hope people start to realize that stuff like that shouldn't be acceptable.

I'm not an EA hater either, I don't care about their games enough to hate. I just really don't like the idea that a company can do that, as I'm a big fan of gaming that makes the whole thing... It screws us, in ways people don't really understand.

What I want to know is, what proof does anyone have that EA servers are doing any type of rendering of the game? It seems like everyone just turned over at the snap of a finger without asking any questions. Software companies like EA do this to us only because we allow them to.

Whenever you have a combination of profit motive and no accountability you get a situation like this.

Why I brought it up mate, exactly why.

After looking online, their are a few people who have also noticed the discrepancy. So maybe people will catch on that EA reps falsely reported about a feature of the game, common people those who have the game should report if it does work without servers. I'm wondering what happens if you start the game and then block access to the server address, game still run? If so, that would look extremely suspect.

You guys seem to be forgetting that we're only PC gamers. It's not like they screwed up on Xbox or PS3. I doubt a lot comes of this. If so, awesome! I don't see it happening though.

Really internet?

Really?

Reeeeally?

Lucy Bradshaws EXACT WORDS regarding server utilization prior to the release of the game:
Quote:
You’re always connected to the neighbors in your region so while you play, data from your city interacts with our servers, and we run the simulation at a regional scale. For example, trades between cities, simulation effects that cause change across the region like pollution or crime, as well as depletion of resources, are all processed on the servers and then data is sent back to your city on your PC

But all of a sudden, Rock Paper Shotgun gets an "inside scoop" that the game is sim'd via the servers on a regional scale and doesn't auto disconnect (which was obvious since the beta) and its like we apparently had nnooo idea beforehand rolleyes.gif

Maxis was still Maxis...Until The Sims 1 exploded in terms of success. Once they became EAs most valuable asset you can bet that they started slotting their executives in to fit their interests, but Maxis was as scumbaggy as EA from the start anyhow, there's a quote from Will Wright about Spore saying he'd rather have the Metacritic score and sales of TS2 than the metacritic score and sales of HL2.

Someone should legally attack them basing on false advertising. They claimed internet connection was a necessity to aid the game calculations, when in reality it is not, and it's just another pathetic excuse for always online DRM. All they do is copy your city, and paste it into their globe, and update that pasted savegame each half an hour.

If they really wanted to do it right, they should have given you a nice prompt saying 'Do you want your city to be synchronized with GlassBox server?'. That way people who wanted online would get online, and people like me who only care about having MY city MY way, would be happy too.

If you guys don't believe me about people already talking, saying it was a lie take a look in their own forums. I don't own the game and while I'm just no putting it together, I guess it was apparently "well known" that they lied.

Take it how you may, the storm has started.

1.
Maxis said LONG ago that the game had measures in place to not immediately kick people out of the game if they lost connection to their servers.

The fact is:

a)
Maxis told everyone a long time ago that the game wouldn't auto kick people, yet people are unplugging their modems and gasping at the fact that they aren't auto kicked.

Then proclaiming that the game does not require the servers to function...............unless you only ever play one city in a region............

b)
Maxis told everyone BEFORE the game launched how the servers were utilized, yet an "insider" can tell us what we all knew already and apparently its as though we never knew before...

You don't even need a super secret invisible insider to tell you this stuff........Maxis told you themselves.......beta testers would have seen that the game didn't auto kick due to loss of connection.

Liars calling other people liars.

I could release a product and say it does something, obviously it doesn't. My testers could even find that out, tell everyone, doesn't exempt me from liability for how I advertised a product before release. Not every buyer is going to dig through forums and figure out what the Beta was about. Some people expect professionals to make statements and keep them, they make their judgement about purchasing a product off those statements. If a company lies about those statements, a person cannot honestly make a judgement about the purchase. The reason these laws were set in place. It doesn't matter how you spin it, even if it does not effect game play the statement directly effects what people think before purchasing a product. Hence why it skews everything.
