I just found on craigs list the Klipsch promedia 2.1s for 100 bucks. I think that will be the best deal possible.

Again. I will make this clear.

Receiver+Cambridge audio S20 = happy OP

Do NOT buy studio monitors or powered speakers. They are a lot of buck for very little audio bang.

All edifier stuff sounds tinny.

Studio monitors alot of bucks for little bang ?
You probably have never heard some proper quality active speakers then.... Fact.
Ever heard a DynAudio BM6A, BM12A ? a KRK VXT 6 ? Events 20/30 ? All really nice active speakers in various price ranges.

And all Edifier stuff doesnt sound tinny lol, have you listened all sets ?
I listened to and sold the S330D, the S530D and the S730D.
While the S330D could be better (its not bad though) the S530D and especially the S730D sound amazing for a PC speaker set.

I do agree though, the Cambridge audio S20 seems like a nice set but you would need a reciever and getting a 50$ reciever wont do it any good, neither will a 100$ reciever really

So i went to best buy, and listened to the klipsch promedia 2.1s. I thought they sounded like complete **** compared to the bose companion 2's. Is it because i was in a large room (the best buy sales floor)? Or do they just sound like poop? The companions sound so rich compared to the promedia's.

What do you guys think of these for the price? Or should i still go with swans?

More like I have actually listened to good speakers. Powered speaker monitors simply have retarded little mini me mono blocks on the speaker (or at least that is the best way I can describe it). So they took decent speaker drives and hooked them up to awful amps. I have listened to a bunch of these things and I always end up laughing at how they perform for the price.

I have also listened to speakers with good high quality amps.

Which setup do you think wins that fight?

swans are only going to be a little bit better.

Bose is ok. If you like them and can afford them, it wouldn't be a bad choice although I would personally save up and get a good quality setup.
