OC 8350

Thread Starter
Hey everyone. I've recently installed an 8350 into my rig and am now looking to OC it. It is running in a full custom WC loop and from what i've read should easily hit 4.8Ghz however i havent been able to get it to hold stable over 4.510Ghz. Just wondering if you guys could help me with advice for OC settings. I read all your settings and specs however i'm wondering if they'll work on most boards?

Specs are as follows:

Asrock 990Fx Extreme 4 MB
FX8350
Corsair Dominator Platinum 16Ghz 1866mhz RAM
Cortsair AX1200W psu
Sapphire 7970 Vapor X 6Gb card
Koolance 360mm High flow Radiator in push/pull config
EK 4.0 pump
Aquacomputer Kryos cpu block
1/2" ID tubing
Kingston Hyper X 120Gb SSD

I figure i should be able to push it alot harder than its currently going just not sure where i'm going wrong. I'm not an extreme overclocker either am still learning and trying to get better at it. Any other info on the rig can be found in my builds on my profile. 'Blue Ice' build. Thanks in advance to everyone for the help.

This could be down to having a not so special CPU, as overclocking varies for chip to chip

Yeah seems i'm unlucky that way lol. Was same with my 8150 lol. Wouldn't go past 4.4 stabily lol. Oh well i guess I'll keep trying some more and see if i can achieve anything but not gonna lose sleep over it lol.

Yeah, probably a dud. You could rma it if it's worth that much to you. My C3 Phenom is the same way, 3.9 is my max lol.

EDIT: You're not overclocking by FSB are you? If you are I would recommend resetting it back to stock and trying the multiplier. FSB changes more than just you CPU clock, ram could be a large cause of instability if you overclock by the FSB.

I agree with this^ ramp up you multiplier as much without chancing the bus frequency, as the FSB is more for tweaking and ram and pci speeds

I was using Multiplier as primary OC. but i was hitting a very low wall tongue.gif And my Ram shouldn't have held me back as i was using corsair dominator Platinum 1866mhz x 16Gb lol.

What are your cpu temps and voltage at load?

What are you using to test stability?

Should be able to hit 4.8ghz pretty easily with the cooling you have.

I was using passmark to run burn in and benching on aida 64 also used unigine and 3dmark11 to test. In terms of temps i wasn't passing 45c under load but at 4.6ghz i couldn't even get a stable boot on windows. However the system is now wound back to 4.2ghz as i no longer need it OC'd high as i have recently upgraded my rig so this one is merely a backup for small menial stuff.
