Thermaltake? - Licenses from Asetek.
NZXT? - Licenses from Asetek.
Zalman? - Licenses from Asetek.
Corsair? - Licenses from Asetek as well as CoolIT.

Asetek's claim is that Cooler Master has violated their patent. Whether their patent is too broad or should have been granted is a matter for the courts to decide.

question to the hardware reps - does Asetek produce these units for you as an OEM deal or
do you build them yourself (because you keep on referring to license from Asetek).

No, our designers, product manager, and some others were involved with Asetek in building the Kraken units. While Asetek is the OEM, the design came from us. To my knowledge we have a unique design compared to other MFG's who use Asetek as an OEM. We didn't just "slap stickers and buttons" on ours, as another user in here stated. Everything from the pump noise to the Logo, to the Hue and Control Software, tubing, rad size... all of that was evaluated and determined by us.

EVER.

comparied to the H80, the antec kuhler 920 and the zalman AIO i tried, i had bubbles causing pump noise all the freaking time,

iv'e never tried any of the big single or double stack tower coolers though, it looks like a lot of extra, unnecessary weight that sticks far enough out from the motherboard to be a danger in regards to flexing.

I know. I have the H80 in my current computer, which is ok, I got a really good deal on it otherwise I would have skipped it. But after using the Water 2.0 Extreme in a customer's build I was really impressed by it. So I bought one and now it is in my closet with the rest of my new components, just waiting on a motherboard before my rebuild.

Really good performance at low noise levels. I think sometimes people just think what they have is what is best for everyone. Some people don't want to be bothered by the work a custom loop takes, no matter how trivial it may be to some other people.

temps max around 50c at above settings. I don't know of any cooler that can match that for $60.

You're talking about a refurb; not the actual cost of the unit. Like wise, $60 is what the Phanteks TC12DX costs. Which has been tested and shown to only be outpaced by the H100i, but beat the H80i.

Corsair - "It's great but we'd like to make changes to , , , , or whatever."
Asetek - "Okay let's work on this."

[montage sequence of Corsair and Asetek engineers working and testing various configs over the next few months with dramatic, inspiring music]

Corsair - "Well, it looks like it finally meets our performance and mechanical specs! Thanks, Asetek!"
Asetek - "Okay, we will start manufacturing at our facility next Tuesday."
Corsair - "Our quality control guys and engineers will be there for the first days of production."
Asetek - "Great, see them then!"

[insert significantly less exciting montage sequence of engineers opening boxes and testing units and inspecting each unit for failure set to somewhat more somber, serious music]

Corsair - "Our QC engineers reported back that we were able to pass the PVT (product verification test) with .x% failure, and with a few small changes we can get that to .y% failure by next Thursday."
Asetek - "Yes we are aligned."
Corsair - "Great!"

[A month or so later...]

Corsair - "PRESS RELEASE - NEW HYDRO SERIES ANNOUNCED!"
Overclock.net - "PFFT just buy real watercooling n00bs."
Many thanks for clarification! thumb.gif
