Budget overclocking AM3+ for under 100 quid

So I have a FX-6300 running on a 907a-ds3 @4400GHz -1.4v and anything more and it becomes unstable even throwing up the volts higher. Other issues with the board I'm having is the ethernet died on it and the USBs short out every so often (I've done some debugging changing mice, keyboard, turning off usb sleep mode and even changing the psu). Can't really send it back because I used thermal tape to add heatsinks to the mosfets and I really can't do without a computer at the minute anyways.

I'm looking for a upgrade and was looking at the following.
Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 - 1.0 £85
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 - 1.0 £100
ASUS M5A99X EVO - 2.0 £92
ASRock 990FX Extreme4 £85

I don't really want to spend more than £100 on it since I'm going to be throwing down around £300 on water cooling but I want it to be a pretty decent board. The UD3 seems the base line but with the problems with the DS3 I've had and I don't seem to be able to get the ver3 in the UK I'm a bit reserved about getting it. Do any of those boards stand out and have I missed one? The ASROCK is probably the better option if I plan to use crossfire at 2x16 but don't think I'll be using higher end cards for a while. EVO has the digital VRMs but less of them but seems to run at less power than the UD3 and a fraction faster in processing (nothing that makes it a must buy though).

I wish I had done the research before I bought the DS3, I'll learn one of these days.

Cheers

I personally love the 990FX Extreme4.

And seeing that you're in the UK, in case of RMA you'd have to deal with ASRock Netherlands, which are an awesome team. Really fast and helpful. The best RMA experience I've ever had.

Otherwise... 990XA seems like a safe bet. The FXA had weird Vdroop issues IIRC?

Can't go wrong with any of those boards really. They're all pretty great; however, as a matter of personal choice, I would go with the ASRock or the ASUS. I've had both Gigabyte and ASUS boards, and typically my ASUS clocks higher.

Thanks for the input as you can tell from the post I was leaning more towards the ASRock and ASUS higher clocks speeds are always nice. When I break stuff it tends to be my fault anyways so I don't tend to RMA stuff, I probably should I'd save a fortune but this way I have a reason to upgrade.

I'd take the 990XA-UD3 (well I did take one), its a solid board that will give you good service and lets you save a bit on the 990FX all you lose is a few PCIe lanes

I use MSI 990FXA-GD65. My Phenom 2 965 is overclocked to 4,25GHz. I haven't experienced any of the supposed VRM problems that plague MSI parts. And the MSI board is also a good board for budget!thumb.gif

so I've been looking through stuff.

ASUS M5A99X EVO good if it works, terrible RMA service in the UK appaerently, which is what's putting me off buying the EVO or even the sabertooth.
Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 What's putting me off this is I can't find a rev 3 in the UK and from what I've read they can be pretty hard to overclock due to voltage issues and I can't seem to find if this has been fixed in the rev 1 board. I don't really mind the lack off UI in bios.
Asrock Extreme4 has gone up to around £100 as the one I saw for 85 was acutally a Extreme3. Again not really an issue it's in my budget. A review said that that some of the voltage readings set in BIOs were not accurate but this was more for LN2 and DICE.

So unless I can find something else I'll probably go with the ASRock. As for MSI I really want 8+2 VRM phase.

I had ordered the ASRock last night but when they checked the warehouse it was the last one and badly damaged so I got a refund lol.

I'll check this board out thanks.

EDIT: And ordered , I was looking at the G80 but if I was going to actually go over my budget then I would of been looking at the sabertooth again. Thanks again everyone.

Well have you look at a Biostar TA990FXE or TA970XE?
