My LD one can handle a 5.3ghz 3930K at around 30C. Very high loads that is, prime, folding, that sort of stuff.

Benching etc. and the temps will be lower.

Core temps start hitting positive numbers after 5.0ghz. At 5.3 core temps will run in the 10-20s...

Sub-zero temperatures reduce current leakage in the transistors which ultimately reduces the effects of electronmigration to pretty much nothing.

Also because the transistors have less leakage they become more efficient and can switch on and off faster with less power consumption.

Right, so time has come for me to pick *WHAT* to put under phase.

3770K + Z77X-UP7

3960X + RIVE (?)

AMD FX-8350 + ? (No idea what good AMD motherboards are out there, any recommendation would be welcome).

I am actully leaning towards, silly me, selling 2 x GTX 680 Classifieds + 3770K / UP7 - This should give me MORE than enough cash (Not that it is a problem, but more money = far more possibilities for binning a processor) for trying to Phase a FX-8350.

Never gone down the AMD road before, and I heard they are "fun" to play with under Phase.

Opinions ?

Daily use = Benching (For fun - Have no ambitions of starting to make a name of myself or anything the likes - This is purely a hobby) - Gaming (Which GTX 680 SLI would be more than enough for) - Internet, movies, etc.

3930K can be maxed out on phase but you won't really get much more out of it for 24/7 than on high end water. Mobo might need watercooling for full load situations at high frequencies.

3770K, less performance than a 3930K, will scale with the cold better and take the volts better, can't be maxed out on phase.

8350, very fun to OC and scales with the cold very nicely but the performance is just crap. Good mobos would be crosshair V formula and crosshair V formula-z

Personally I'd probably get a 3770K, maybe try and get one of those new batch ones that clock good.

Thanks Alatar - Will go with the 3770K - Will "just" require me to do some binning (As the current one is de-lidded) - The motherboard (UP7) is pretty much up there among the "best", so currently looking at getting 10´ish 3770K and start binning smile.gif

Luckily I have a full 14 day return on products I buy, so I can practically keep binning indefinitely (Not counting the shipping back and forth).

Have a small deployment in about a month, the money for that COULD go towards a second benchtable for an AMD setup (Just for giggles - Just saw a Cinebench result from a FX8350 @ 6.2Ghz - Results were ... Yah :/ ).
