Should I replace my Catleap Q270 with a (hopefully) glossy Auria EQ276W?

Hey guys, I have a Catleap Q270 LED (I got it back in June for $320). It's the one with no input other than a DVI and audio jack, although it has no speakers. I love my Catleap, but I'm thinking about maybe selling it and replacing it with an Auria EQ276W. Glossy version, I don't want the AG coating one (although I heard those are the only ones they've been coming out with.

My friends finally convinced me to get a PS3 (I'm still a PC gamer and want a Korean IPS) so I can play with them, but my current Catleap wouldn't display 1080p on a PS3 at all and 720p horribly, due to the lack of a scalar. Also, it only has one input. The reason I am looking at just the Aurias and not other brands is because, having seen the new prices for these monitors, I really don't want to pay a lot more than what I originally bought it for. Also, having a warranty at my local Microcenter is infinitely better than having to ship it back to Korea. According to the website, there are a few Aurias at my local Microcenter, open box (but includes everything) and no dead pixels for $340. Here's the link:
http://www.microcenter.com/product/384780/EQ276W_27_IPS_LED_Monitor

Also I found this info out about checking to see if it is glossy or matte. Since these are open box, maybe I'll get lucky:
Quote:
All of these monitors are now AG. If your box has a plastic handle in the middle of the top panel, glossy. If it has two perforated cardboard cutouts of the sides for your hands, AG. Same SKU, model number, all that stuff. The microcenter employees didn't know until a customer returned one and wanted to make sure his next one was glossy.

Of course I'd have to check them out first before I buy, but my plan is to pick one up that seems in good condition, take it home and calibrate it, and compare to my Catleap. Then I can take it back, no questions asked to get a refund correct?

I made this in a separate thread because I wanted to ask both owners of these monitors. Maybe someone will have knowledge of both. So, I just wanted to ask:

1.) Anyone know how to glossy Auria picture quality compares to the Catleaps? I understand that they are the same panel, but there has to be a difference when calibrated. What about input lag (more inputs)?
2.) I've found no definitive answer to this, but can this monitor definitely display a PS3 at 1080p resolution without a degradation in quality?
3.) I know that the stand ill be crap for this as well. I plan on using my mono price stand for it.. if it can hold it. Do you think the Auria is heavier/bigger than my Catleap?

I've done a bit of research but so far haven't found any direct comparisons of the two monitors or proof that you can play a PS3 on it without problems. If this doesn't, I'd rather not go through the hassle and the refund process tongue.gif

But if you can share your thoughts, or if there is another Korean IPS in this price range, please let me know!

Thanks for the help guys thumb.gif

Well is it true that the Aurias came in a box with a handle, as supposed to a cutout section where you can grab the actual box? Maybe my chances are better because they are open box units. I'll have to see when I get there.

If anyone has any more thoughts/knowledge to share, I would really, really appreciate it if you could smile.gif

Usually open box units are returned there for a reason and WILL be defective. They have a no questions asked return policy so dead pixels = return.

I'd avoid open boxes there like the plague.

But in that case if I take it home and it doesn't work or has defects I can return it right away, and if there's a bigger problem with it that doesn't appear until after 30 days it's covered under MC's 1 year warranty? I completely understand what you're saying, but either way aren't I protected from these things when I buy the monitor? These monitors have unlisted condition, whereas one does say it has dead pixels and is missing components.

Oh man... then maybe I should consider getting a second monitor instead as well. I found this monitor for $90:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005153

But it's an older, discontinued TN (I had a 3D LG TN before, doesn't even compare to my Catleap), and only 23". Getting a new K-IPS may be cheaper, but I agree this all will definitely be more of a hassle. If I do get a second monitor though, I have to worry about finding space on my cramped desk. And because my budget for a second monitor is only about $100 (same as how much more I would spend after selling my Catleap), they're probably going to be noticeably worse than if I had hooked up a K-IPS to a PS3. I'm not too sure anymore, I'm split between trying my luck with the Auria's or this LG.

Yes there is a good chance the open box unit will have been returned for a reason, but it could just be someone didn't like the glossy (or AG) or their video card couldn't drive it. Absolutely zero hassles whatsoever with returns at Microcenter. If for some reason they do have a glossy I would absolutely at least try it out.

Thank you, I'll at least have to check it out! And I wanted to ask both forums because someone might know! I'm going to MC today, I'll let you guys know what happens!
