GTX 670MX Overclocking [Updated-custom BIOS file]

Thread Starter
With extensive research and modifications, I come to finally unlock this beasty laptop =]

Asus G75VX
BIOS - Custom .204 Version Bios modded by myself[httuner]
GPU Bios- Asus GTX670MX - custom modded to increase core clock ability +600mhz instead of the +135mhz limit

I'm wanting to push this baby to 1000mhz + but that would require a small bump in voltage, which I will get to eventually but since this is my everyday laptop, I might not try to kill it so fast so now its time for me to do some overclocking =]

Validation:http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/vcspv/
910mhz on GPU Clock
1300mhz on Memory Clock

Max overclocked achieved with OEM Card, No Volt mods or increase_

3DMark11 Score: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/6188137
This program doesn't read my clocks correctly so ignore the clocks:

I can post more benchies, but its the only benchmark program I have right now lol:p

Updated Results* GPU at 1000mhz Benchrun

For those who are interested in this current vBIOS Mod_ please download it from here: This will void your warranty* - What you do with the files or information given here is entirely up to you, if something goes wrong I will not be held responsible.

Asus G75VX gpuBIOS
GTX670MX Core overclocking unlocked*
Increase Memory Clock to 1100mhz to allow MemClk to be overclocked past its limits*

-This is the GPU bios only and not the System BIOS_

MSI GT70
GTX670MX Core overclocking unlocked*
Increase Memory Clock to 1000mhz to allow MemClk to be overclocked past its limits
-This is just GPU Bios only and not the System BIOS

1.Make a backup of your original SYSTEM BIOS, using the following FTK Software provided below--
Please flash and backup with FTK Flashing software:
Here is a link to the FTK Flashing software information and where to get the lastest version*
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1726429
Download the DOS Version_ DO not download the Windows version since you won't be using it.

Update** The link above seems to be bad so heres a new link to get the FTK Flashing software* Its not in english but easy to understand, just click on the DOS version link.
http://forum.hardware.fr/hfr/Hardware/carte-mere/flash-downgrade-asus-sujet_919459_1.htm

You have to create a bootable USB and place the FTK DOS files into the USB Drive, the link I provided above will show you how to do this and it provides link to download the software to create the bootable USB and the FTK Files needed:

To backup your bios, after you have created the bootable USB Drive with FTK DOS files in it, you restart your laptop and boot from the USB Stick, then type in these commands for backing up:
Quote:
Here are the commands you use to make a backup of your original BIOS.

Backing up: I recommend you backup your old BIOS just in case.

fpt -d backup.rom -BIOS

If you don't specify -BIOS, it will fail to backup.
-use this backup of your bios to modify using MMTool, after that save this bios as bios.rom or whatever you want to call it and proceed with the flashing steps.

2. These next steps are to show you what you need to do to be able to insert in the new Modified GPU vBIOS that you downloaded above into your SYSTEM Bios that you just backed up, you must do this in windows:

Download MMTool from here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/83er4m
Open up MMTool:

Click on LOAD IMAGE - then select the backup.rom file that you created with FTK as suggested down there_

Go to the REPLACE Tab, and select the modified GPU Bios that you downloaded by clicking BROWSE_
Select the box LINK PRESENT:
Under Vendor ID, Device ID: it should say 10de, 11a_ (will be different for different laptops)
Click Replace_

Then click save to save your BIOS and proceed with steps to flash it under FTK_ This process just replaces the original GPU BIOS with the Modify Version I created_

Before flashing this BIOS please reset your overclocks if you use software* otherwise your video drivers will crash upon reboot. i.e. MSi Afterburner[/B]

To flash this Modified BIOS_ You can not use Asus EZFlash and DO NOT* I repeat DO NOT use WinFLash. Always flash from DOS, never in windows since the chances of something going wrong is much higher in windows then in DOS_

3.Place this modified BIOS into the bootable USB flash drive with the FTK DOS files that you created earlier then reboot and boot from the USB drive. Please have your Power supply plugged in and your battery installed.

Then go ahead and type in this command:
Quote:
fpt -f bios.rom -BIOS

Wait until it successfully flashes your BIOS, at the end you should receive some kind of green Success sentence, once you get that then proceed with next steps:

POWER OFF after you flash. It won't take effect until you do, unplug your laptop from the wall, then remove the battery_ Push the power button to completely drain any power left inside the laptop. Hold it for a good 10 seconds then replace battery and wall plug then power it On_ You might have to do this since sometimes the old BIOS settings is saved into RAM. Have fun and HAPPY MODDING thumb.gif
-You might have to reboot several times for your computer to adjust itself to the new vBIOS_ GPU-Z will sometimes read the wrong clocks, if you see that GPU-Z isn't reading the clocks correctly then just restart your laptop a few times.

Edit* To be able to boot into your USB Stick, you must go to your BOOT Tab and DISABLE Fast Boot, Enable Launch CSM, DIsable PXE Rom, then go to your SECURITY Tab and DISABLE Secure Boot_

Save changes in BIOS and restart, press ESC and it should bring up the boot menu with your USB Stick as a selection, select it and you got it_ I think thats it lol thumb.gif

Quote:
Okay, so I've had a lot of requests to make an unlock BIOS, but I have to report that this is currently not possible, well it is possible but it just isn't possible to create a fully unlocked BIOS that can be flashed to everyone's laptop without causing your laptop Serial number and Windows 8 Key to change.

What happens is, if I create an unlock SYSTEM BIOS from my laptop BIOS, it will retain my Windows 8 Key and laptop Serial number thus, changing your laptop to my serial number and my windows 8 Key, this will affect your warranty because the serial number will change completely on your laptop, thus now Asus thinks you own my laptop if you were to send it in for warranty purposes if lets say something went wrong haha_ SO currently there is no workaround this. (technically by flashing any modified BIOS, you pretty much voided your warranty) - who says you can't always flash back to original bios though? thumb.gif

But I can show you how to unlock your Own BIOS for more options and features Via another tutorial when I get the time to type it up =]

Take off back-panel, use a high static pressure 140mm fan for intake (and possibly a 140mm high airflow fan to help pull air out of the exhaust vent), and attach some low-profile northbridge/VRAM heatsinks to the heatpipes.

The only main issue is that it would render the laptop heavier and possibly less mobile, but that's a price one has to pay for extreme OCing.

I manage to get 880mhz on the gpu clock before leaving to work, bumping my gpu score to 20,xxx points. I'll do more testings at home later and increase the memory clock more, perhaps bump voltage up a little.

I ran it at 1000mhz, it does fine under MSI stress test but refuses to benchmark, drivers keep crashing. Hmmm more voltage!

Asus released the G75VX model the first quarter of this year, I picked this baby up 2 weeks ago_ Unlocked my own BIOS and now going to push it hard_ So far thats 901mhz stable with no voltage increase. I'm going for higher =] Stay tune!

I just need to figure out the voltage tables for this GPU_:thumb:

Would this VBIOS work on 670MX equipped Sager/Clevo?

If it can, then the NP9130 definitely edges out the GX60 going forward.

Nice work!

I would definitely look into doing a few vBios for some folks to try, but not all vBios are the same so sometimes it takes a while to learn about that certain vBios. I would not test this vBios on a Sager/Clevo, but I would be more than willing to help look into modifying a vBios under request if time permits me to do so thumb.gif
