Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 + Corsair Dominator = ??

Thread Starter
I'm currently thinking about investing in an NH-D14 SE2011 for my I7 3930k.
The problem is, I use the high profile Corsair Dominator ram, 4x4GB and I'm not sure if the large heatsink on the cooler will be able to sit there, with the big ram profiles on the sides.

My motherboard is the Asus Rampage IV/Battlefield 3
And no, I don't have the tool to screw off the ram heatsinks.

I'm not sure if I can rely on this image, as I need the SE2011 version:

Thanks a lot in advance!

NH-D14 SE2011 only has mounts for 2011 socket. Noctua will not give other socket mounts to you free/ So if you do buy the NH-D14 SE2011 make sure you buy the NM-I3 SecuFirm2™ Mounting-Kit. The reason they will not give you a free update mounting kit is because the 2011 is newest mount.. and above kit is a SE kit.. Sepcial Edition and as such they no newer mounts to update your socket mount to.. which is what they do free.

I used to have a D14 and Dominator GT ram. THere is 44mm of clearance under the D14.

There are two options fr making it fit. Either remove the top fins off the RAM (they unscrew) or move teh fan placement up a little on the cooler. Reletively easy to do.

Not sure I understood you. The SE2011 should fit the LGA2011 socket just fine -> 3930K & rampage iv?

Ah, then the fan option sounds like my option! ^^ Thanks

Yes it will. I was looking at your rig in sig. wink.gif
And even if you want to use the SE2011 on 1155/1156 the kit is like $9. Well worth the difference for the PWM fans.

Just an update, the NH-D14 will not fit your system if you have the high profiled RAM I had (Corsair Dominators) so removing the top heat spreader is 100% necessary on this board.
It's not a fan blocking the cooler on the RAM, but the actual cooler heat sink, as the RAM are on both sides of the CPU and not just on one side.

It is although possible to fit the RAM under the NH-D14 as long as you remove the heat spreaders.

Here's how to determine if your RAM will fit under your RAM:

Every motherboard I've checked add 3.5mm to RAM height for distance from top of motherboard to top of RAM

Every motherboard I've check add 8mm (top of CPU to face of motherboard) to distance from CPU to bottom fin of cooler equals distance from motherboard to bottom fin of cooler.

NH-D14 = 44mm bottom fin to top of CPU
Corsair Dominator = 54mm

Top- of CPU to motherboard = approx. 8mm . . . . 54 + 3 = 57mm
RAM socket to motherboard = approx. 3.5mm. . . 44 + 8 = 52mm

Corsair Dominator RAM is approx. 4mm too tall to fit under NH-D14

Of all twin tower coolers I've checked the NH-D14 and TC14PE have the most CPU to bottom fin clearance.

If a moderator or Administrator would like to use the above as a sticky for people to figure out what coolers will fit over what RAM please feel free to do so. I also have a list of cooler size and clearance and RAM sizes I would gladly share.
