Also, that test was done using 12.x drivers from AMD, however the 13.x series drivers have given large (20%+) boosts in performance in many modern titles. Not to mention, you get the Never Settle Reloaded bundle with a 7970 which is a spectacular value adder.

That review is no longer accurate due to driver updates made by AMD. After the 12.11 drivers from AMD every card in the 7000 series received a substantial performance boost.

For accurate articles you have to find ones that were made on or after October 22, 2012.

Order cancelled for the time being. Which exact model of the 7970 would you recommend? I'd like to sit around the $400 mark. I'm not sure I would value the difference from a $350 670OC to a $500 7970.

Op do not listen to these guys. 670 pe is perfectly fine and will trade blows with the 7970. The only reason to get a 7970 over the 670 is if you game over 1920x1080.

Nope, I only game at 1920x1080. I'll mull it over a bit

I would recommend that you get one of the following cards:

You can't possibly be serious. The 670 is the lesser card in every way when compared to the 7970. In fact, most of the time the 680 has trouble keeping up. You have four 7970s so I'd think you would know this. Also he will benefit from having 3GB of VRAM vs only 2GB with the 670.

My suggestion to you is...

Buy 6 more gb of ram for your current rig.

Buy a 670 instead of the 680 however I would opt for the 7950 and OC it to hell and back.

Push your 950 to 4.0ghz or 4.2ghz if it is possible.

Enjoy your rig and save up for the next video card upgrade.

A 4.0ghz Nehalem is still an awesome CPU and I would not even think about upgrading at this point.

It will do you well. And come haswell time, if you want you can upgrade the CPU and add a second one as well. biggrin.gif Win win.

I have two 680s and 4 7970s. Watercooling on all of them. No matter what I do with the 680s. Two of the 7970s still top them.

My suggestion to you is save your money for the next generation and roll with what you got unless you still want to run 3 monitors. if you are running just 1080p just like me then you should have no problems. My rig is similar to yours and i haven't found a game yet that was challenging to run with 2 5870s. I don't think the 7970 is worth the money for the performance you get if you stay at 1 monitor at 1080p. 3 monitors it probably is worth it though.
