need help with Asus zonar phoebus and Razer Tiamat 7.1

post #1 of 11
Thread Starter
I recently bought an Asus Zonar Phoebus sound card and it is installed and working properly. I also now have a Razer Tiamat 7.1 headset and I will be using it for gaming only. I do not use my headet or pc for that matter for music or movie just gaming.

What I am having issues with is makign sure that I have the Tiamat connected to the Asus sound card properly. something tells me that i do not have the connections done rite. My mic works fine but the sound I am getting simply seems off, and all i have to compare this to is my previous headset which was an astro a40.

Can anyone help me with what cables go where from the tiamat to the sound card? the tiamat has the following connections,

Green = out i beleive
pink = mic
orange = c/sub
black = rear
gray = side

the colors of coarse refer to the colors on the ends of the plugs

the asus zonar phoebus has the following connections ports,

mic in
HP out
Box Link (i wont be using this)
line in
Front
ctr/sbw
rear
side/spdif out

any help would be greatly appreciated as i really want to get these set up correctly

Thanks.

First off is you sell off the Tiamat 7.1 and buy some nice sounding stereo headphones and a separate add-on mic of your choice.
Use the Phoebus built in headphone surround sound features.

.................uhhhhhhhhhh

sorry OP. Some people need to understand tact on this website.

He has a point, but I think at this point it is too late.

So I think I got an answer for you.

Connect your green cable to the "front" port on the card.

Orange to center/subwoofer

Grey to side/spidif out

Black to Rear

pink to microphone.

and finally your USB to any available USB port.

He should also have the Phoebus set for "8-channel" (7.1) and "Speaker" output, not "Headphone" output.

Yes, I forgot to mention that. In fact, I would set the audio up for 8 channel and I would plug each cable in one at a time to make sure all the drivers are working correctly. The razer tiamat often times has driver issues, so it would be worth double checking.

Thank you for all the replies. To tacoboy I have no want to use a mic that is seperate from my headset. I recieved the Tiamat 7.1 as a gift from my wife, and while my only complaint is the cheap mic on it I am happy with it. I also have a set of Sennheiser PC 333D and a set if Astro a40 with the mixamp. My Phoebus card went bad after a week anyway so now I am looking for a new 7.1 surround capable card, any suggestions please let me know!
