XFX R7950 Black Edition Black Screen Crash

Thread Starter

I keep getting random black screen crashes with my new R7950 (which I received as a replacement card for another R7950 that died within 12 hours of receipt with white screen and black vertical stripes), and if audio is playing it will loop a buzzing sound upon crash, of which the only way around is to completely reboot my system. It has happened when in my internet browser, when gaming, and just at desktop too. I have tested the card in Furmark, under 100% load for over an hour, upon receipt of the card and had no issue, no artifacts. Temps were at around 73-74c under full load after an hour in Furmark, 26c idle. A few hours after I started getting the odd black screen crash. I've had the card running for most of today, no issue, then just randomly it crashed several times in a row this evening.

I have tried several fixes suggested around the web personally. Disabled ULPS, used the MSI Afterburner "unofficial overclocking" tweak, changed 6 pin power cables, run stock clocks on CPU and RAM, tried different drivers as well. The problem persists.

It`s unlikely my system as I don`t have the issue with my HD6870. Does anyone know what is causing this or how to fix it?

Rollback the drivers.

Does your 7950 have one 8 pin port and one 6 pin?

I've tried several different drivers to no avail.

The card is the dual 6 pin single fan R7950 black edition factory overclocked @900mhz
