So, my current rig is:
H100 Corsair Liquid Cooling System
AMD Radeon HD 6850
AMD Phenom II x6 1090T
M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3
8GB Corsair Vengeance (2x4GB)
700 Watt PSU (I forget the name)

What I intend to do is upgrade my motherboard, video card and processor. This is the current idea for those parts:
ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Gaming Motherboard
GIGABYTE GV-R795WF3-3GD Radeon HD 7950 3GB
AMD FX-8350 Vishera 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor

Now, for gaming is that CPU a good choice? I refuse to pay for Intel...

If your upgrading only for gaming now, I would say go for the 7950 for now.
I have almost the same thing now, I wan't to upgrade my rig and my choice was a new mobo + cpu or a gpu. Now i'm going for the gpu.
(Also a 7950 thumb.gif )
What are your temps on the cpu now?
Maybe overclock it a bit more if your temps would let you? rolleyes.gif

Well, the problem with my current processor isn't heat... At least I don't think so, only goes up to 32c on each core at full load (clocked to 4.2ghz). The problem is that if I try to use more then two cores, even unclocked, my computer won't boot due to bad cores.

Your CPU only goes to 32°c during stress testing???

I've been with Intel for a while but that seems really low.

And you have a 1090t that can only use 2 cores??!?!

...so confused

What kind of temperature program are you using?
Because what DBEAU said was true, 32c is very low on 100% load even with a H100. What program are you using to get 100% load?

Start with upgrading your video card a 7950 would be a great choice as said above

I'd be interested in knowing what motherboard you are using now. Not saying it's impossible, but it's very unlikely that you could overclock two of the six cores on a 1090T to 4.2 GHz and the rest of them not work at all, even at stock speed. That might happen if you had a motherboard that was inadequate to run a Thuban in the first place, though.

I have a feeling if you get that Crosshair V and put your 1090T on it, you might find that you can run all six cores with no problem. If you could run it as an X6 at 4.2 GHz, then you wouldn't have any need for the 8350. A 1090T at 4.2 with all cores running is plenty good enough to handle anything you'd throw at it, and faster than an 8350 at that speed on workloads that aren't multithreaded.

If the 1090T really is somehow borked in four of its six cores, then yes, an FX-8350 will certainly get the job done for you. It performs in the range of an Intel 2500K most of the time, but it can perform much better than that if you give it a task that can use all eight of its cores to the max. Under those conditions, it's a match for the Intel i7 processors that cost a lot more.
