Wow. I was using Google Reader heavy before I recently switched to News Blur and I'm liking it because of the options, but for just a RSS feed reader, nothing will match Reader imo. Definitely gonna miss the fact that it was compatible with the Read It Later extension. Don't know how many articles I saved with that.

Just found out as I was about to read my morning feeds. I've been using Reader several times a day in the last couple of months, and I was really satisfied with the service. I hope that there is a worthy alternative out there.

Why would Google do this? Is it about costs? It doesn't seem like a very heavy service.

RSS apparently isn't the most popular thing anymore.

I think I've only used the Android app for it. Could be thinking of a different app though. (Did a quick playstore search and I think I used something else.)

I personally don't use it, but a friend of mine who sits right besides me in class does. All the time.

He's not going to be happy.

Sad because the reader was one of the best on-line rss agregators out there.
