Which 7950?

Thread Starter
Hi guys

Which 7950 should I get? I'm looking to OC the card as well (I like to OC stuff) biggrin.gif

MSI TF
Powercolor PCS+
Sapphire Vapor-X

I don't hav any experience with Saphhire and I'm leaning towards either MSI/Powercolor

The MSI costs more than the Powercolor, but is it worth it?

Cheers!

I have two of the MSI tf cards and love them, but all of the cards posted above are good cards.

Thanks!

I may go for the Powercolor. Just remembered that bioshock infinite and crysis 3 are bundled to the Powercolor!

Last time I checked you could get the games.with all.the cards, if that is still the case you should go by which one runes cooler, OC's better, gas better reviews ect...

Thats what I would go by anyway, either one should be a great card.

Yea I believe the games are bundled with all of them. You'll definitely want to try to get a 7950 with a 7970 PCB for better OCing. I have a MSI TF 7950 and I've benched higher than 680s. (Heaven)

Check out this thread: http://www.overclock.net/t/1281711/hd7950-revised-with-reference-hd7970-pcb-club

HD7950 cards that have used reference HD7970 PCB.

2. HIS ICEQ X2 Boost
3. MSI TF3

No. Apparently MSI went back to using the 7950 pcb. I just bought a MSI R7950 TWIN FROZR 3GD5/OC from Amazon, but it was the new Boost Edition and had the 7950 PCB. It is still a great overclocker though, I managed to bench with 1278 Core Clock and 1833 memory clock on mine. Unfortunately, you don't know which version you are going to get since the Boost Edition is not even listed on New Egg, Amazon or MSI's web site. The boxes look the same, but the newer ones have a Windows 8 sticker and another sticker that says "Boost Edition" on the front.

This is the only site that I could find that even mentions Boost Edition:

http://www.techpowerup.com/180436/MSI-Intros-Radeon-HD-7950-Twin-Frozr-Boost-Edition-OC-Graphics-Card.html

http://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/b1508/MSI_HD_7950_Twin_Frozer_III_OC.html

The newer boxes look like this:

Its not that big of a deal even if you dont get one with a 7970 PCB, 7970 PCB-cards may overclock better on average (in 7900-series owners thread basically every 7970 PCB TFIII I´ve seen has hit at least 1200 on the core) but even standard 7950 PCB-card might be a great overclocker (like poster before me confirmed), at the end of the day it is silicon lottery we´re playing smile.gif

Both of mine are great overclockers and have the 7950 PCB. Not to say all are, but seems like most MSI rd cards are.
