Asus Direct CU II Gtx 670 in SLI Overclocking

Hi guys,

Since getting a second card and going SLI i have been experiencing a few weird things when overclocking the cards.

It seems overclocking cards in SLI make very little difference to FPS.

I have tried syncing the cards and doing +60 core, +200 memory and the voltage no matter what its set to automatically jumps to the maximum of 1.175v, then i tried overclocking the cards seperatly +120 core + 200 memory on the top card and +80 core +200 memory on the second one and there was hardly any difference between setting both to +60 core.

When viewing GPU useage its up and down across both cards. Some games use 90 - 100% on both cards such as Valley 1.0 or DIRT3, where as other like Assasins Creed 3 will contantly fluctuate between 50 - 90% useage at most. Power never seems to go much above 100% either dispite setting it to the maximum in afterburner (121% top card, 117% bottom)

Is this the SLI scaling doing this (depends how well game is optimised) or is something else going on? I only seem to get around 70fps in assasins creed 3 maxed out at 1080p on outdoor scenes, where as on the first few missions on the boat and in the theatre i got 130FPS+ most of the time.

Temps seem the same no matter what overclock i set, if i set +50 voltage it will run the same as +100 (1.175v)

I was hoping to run a milder overclock and lower voltage to help with temps when its warm and push them further on cold days.

My i5 3570k @ 4.5ghz shouldnt bottlneck the cards?

Im using MSI Afterburner.

Many thanks

I have noticed that It doesn't HIGHLY boost the fps when you overclock in SLI, but it can bump about 10-15 frames is what I found.

Try using EVGA precision and make sure you don't use the sync and just synchronize the cards manually, I have found it it much smoother and easier to use precision vs afterburner.

Also make sure your core clocks are divisble by 13 on newer drivers (after 306 if I am correct)
I have a boost of 169core and 580 memory personally @1050mV. so you may be able to hit around there I would think. give or take some.

No game uses the cards at a constant 99 so that's just the game's code, It's only abnormal when it's something like nothing above 30%.and normally the cards do stay about as cool as stock voltages normally.

As for the voltage- I have Personally, found that I had WAYYYYY better results when overclocking both of my cards as if they were a CPU, as in
Raise the clock, test, raise the clock, test, and ONLY raise the clock when Necessary. The cards really do boost and use more voltage when it deems necessary, and I tested all my settings on ncix/linus tech tips crysis 3 benchmark as it is intensive and easy to bench IMO, and quicker than heaven and also gives real world fps.

3570k @ 4.5 does NOT bottleneck those cards, It only is a bottleneck on the CPU side if in task manager its using 100% of the cpu and not 99%ish of the gpu. thumb.gif
