Unofficially yes. Officially back then they discovered a new particle that behaved similarly to the predicted Higgs boson. It required additional processing to verify that it was in fact the Higgs and not just something similar.

Actually... no. If the Higgs Boson had unexpected physics, then they would have something to look at and think about. However, it looks like what the Standard Model predicted and fits in nicely.

The Standard Model does not explain dark matter or dark energy.... they were hoping this new particle would provide some insight.

Ahhhhh...you can never take a picture of the actual black hole.

How do you "see" something? Either particles reflect/refract off it or it emits particles. A black hole absorbs everything beyond the event horizon so you can never take a picture of the actually object.

Or it occludes particles, and the accretion disks around black holes happen to be rather bright. I would put forward that un-seeable things are those that don't interact with your particles at all.
