If some guy could do it in his home can't a multi-milion dollar company do it so I can have the best possible OS on the device I paid for?
You must admit it's rather rediculous.
Still, i'll never pay more than 100€ for a phone, even more now that they all do the same, so I hope they just stop trying to get me to buy newer phones so I can have the latest OS when my 2 year old cellphone runs the latest OS...

Same problem I have with Android. I hate APPL but I am no android shill either. I'll be moving to Windows Phone as soon as my contract is up. I shouldn't be stuck with the same OS without any updates for 2 years because the OEM or the carrier doesn't want to update the OS.

but with android, like for instance lets say the Note 2 for instance tmobile updates it but At&t doesnt it is exact same hardware except for maybe radio, and with android being so open you can run the tmobile rom with minor modding, but with say a windows phone being so locked down try doing that thumb.gif

Install a custom ROM. It isn't any harder than what people who jailbreak iPhones do. Ok well it might be slightly more difficult, but it's still easy enough to research and learn. I know because I used an iPhone for years before switching.

I never said it was a fault. It allows for wildly varying interfaces which can be good or bad depending on your perspective. I appreciate customization, but Apple's OS limitations forces every phone to operate identically and that was the point I was making. The general populace seems to like user friendliness and that is what Apple banks on.

Both phones have their strengths, which are also their weaknesses depending on perspective. Personally I'd take an Android over an iPhone, but that's just me. I'm a Blackberry die-hard anyways so it makes little difference to me what Apple and Samsung do.

Android doesnt BSOD... it just cycle boots and forces you to factory restore it. It's happened twice on my current phone.

As for installing ROMS.. I shouldnt have to root a phone for it to work properly. I do not pay hundreds of dollars for a phone that never gets updates.

I think he's pointing BSOD screenshot when you get to upgrade Windows Phone...

Regarding Rooting... you really don't know anything about it...na ? Rooting will not make your phone to work properly out of the Blue.. When rooted your device is more customizable and allows you to do beyond the limitations set by Stock Rom..

I'd like to see a chart showing how many flagship phones from the past idk, year or two, and what the current OS update they're on is.

But ultimately it's up to the OEM and carriers to push the updates. And since android user's don't have to wait forever to have one new phone launched, and get a bazillion, older phones tend to drop off the carriers support after a year or two.

But that doesn't mean crap when the dev's are making updates instead

Hell just for ****s and giggles I went over to the OG Evo 4g dev section. They have ICS on that little guy. Not bad considering how old that phone is now.
