3930k overclocked to 4.6 getting crazy temps - Page 7

Yep I get 60c at 4.6 in prime 95 after a few hours this is on custom water but still those temps seem very high. Must be not mounted properly or case fans aren't setup properly. Those temps you would expect on a 3770k not on 3930k.

3930k runs way hotter than 3770k

The components do but the cpu actually runs cooler my 3770k at 45 oc used to get up to 70c on the 3930k its cooler at a higher oc 46. But the motherbiard and memory also heats up more than 3770k did.

Limit your use of LinX. More to follow:

Different chip, different characteristics. Just because one 3930K can run 1.44v and stay at 75C with a different cooler, in a different machine, at different ambient temperatures, with possibly a different motherboard and case doesn't mean this one will. biggrin.gif

Are the fans on the H100i spinning at maximum speed (2500+RPM) during your test?

Did you clean off the factory paste from the H100i waterblock before you put that MX4 on? The factory paste pad is top-notch quality Shin Etsu I think.

What you describe could be something really simple, like too MUCH thermal paste applied, or that you may not have screwed the H100i water block screws down until they stopped.

I don't want to read this whole thread and I have no idea if you solved this, but did you put the backplate on correctly? There is a cutout for the two screws on the backplate. If you put it on wrong your temps will go wayy high.

First, LinX will generate much more heat than Prime95 especially at high LDAs. That is why I limit LinX usage to 20 or 30 minutes max. I was getting temps like yours and that's what prompted me to reverse my radiator fans from exhaust to intake and adding push fans. This really improved temps nicely, however, LinX still gets too hot and once it reaches 80C I shut it down. Prime95 on the other hand never gets hotter than 75C. Do what the others suggest with a push/pull rad intake and limit your use of LinX. LinX usage requires superior cooling!

3930k @4.6GHz Vcore 1.37v
LinX Performance Summary (GFlops)

Size LDA Align. Average Maximal
30000 30000 1 191.0743 191.0743
35000 35000 1 192.4694 192.4837
40000 40000 1 193.4920 193.4920
45000 45000 1 193.5983 193.5983

My Temperatures:

MAX 74C under very heavy load use
MAX 75C Prime95 Stress
MAX 83C LinX Stress

(I'm still working to improve temps)

Still not really sure what all the fuss is for. Stock temp throttle is set 90c, and I'm sure Intel would have dumbed that down a bit. Nothing wrong with BM's at 80c, I see it happen all over the net, happens to me too. But I am curious as to why no one ever asks how people set their OC. Increasing BLCK vs Multiplier to achieve 4.6 would require higher vcore and higher temps, no BLCK increase with just a 46 Multiplier = lower vcore/temps.
Oh, always love that RMA is one of top 5 responses to an issue....half the fun of OC'ing is the trouble shooting.

I did later see what his clock was on the pic of RealTemp...but still no one ever asks...lol
