Mojang are planning to introduce Minecraft Realms, a paid monthly subscription service which allows the easy creation of private, controlled servers. The main aim of this is apparently to help parents keep their kids safe when playing Minecraft together online. And for said parents to pay $10-15 a month, of course.

Not a bad idea I suppose, though I'll stick to my servers. :3

That's basically just another way for a company to come out and say they're struggling with cash, while not actually saying that at all.

Minecraft made 200 million dollars in 2012, I really don't think they're struggling with cash.

No this is a company broadening their services in order to increase revenue. Smart move on their part.

I honestly don't mind the concept. As I saw this thread name I thought "OCN will eat them alive if they don't give something back", but I think it's a win-win situation. Server issues have been my biggest complaint with Minecraft. Although 15-30 bucks each month is pretty steep as I only paid 15 dollars for a good year and a half of playing. As a member of a group paying $40 a month for a server to host us all, I'm all for this.
