ASUS R4E - Red SATA ports?

I'm a little confused here. The specs say 4 x SATAII ports and 2 x SATAIII ports intel ports. Also 2 ASMedia 6GBps ports.

At one point I was using the ASMedia ports (from the mobo view, the top left port in red, all the way left, up). I would be a splash screen before the BIOS that said ASMedia.

I believe I had Advanced > SATA Config > AHCI Mode and Advanced > Onboard Devices > ASM1061 to AHCI and OPROM disabled.

Now I can't seem to get these 2 ports to recognize my drive (Intel 520 120GB SSD).

Anyone know how I can enable the controller? I've tried .. just about every combo I could think of.

first off you want the SSD plugged into the intel ports.

Next to enable the ASMedia ports change the setting disabled to enabled?

I don't want the SSD plugged in to the Intel ports. I know why you say that.. but it's not something I want to do right now.

The ASMedia ports are enabled. Here's what I got:

  • Intel 520 120GB plugged in to top left port from image above
  • BIOS > Advanced > Sata Configuration > AHCI Mode, Smart ENABLED, all hot plug DISABLED
  • BIOS > Advanced > Onboard Devices Configuration > ASM1061 Storage Controller is AHCI Mode

ME version is listed as 7.1.21.1134 not sure if this matters...

But I 100% remember I was getting an ASMEDIA controller splash screen. My SSD was plugged in to that port. I was upgrading BIOS and now I can't seem to get it working. I downgraded BIOS and now I don't remember how I had everything set.
