NVIDIA Surround compared to AMD Eyefinity? - Page 2

Thread Starter
I too think that 2gb vram would be enough for triple monitor set up, but are they really future proof? I doubt it can max setting like bf3, crysis 3
I personally think 7950 3gb is really good value, but my bro likes nvidia.

I like the 7970 option for overall deal in price / performance, I was messin' with the guy.
but a 3GB GTX 660 Ti is NOT the move... and especially pushing a Surround set-up.

Also, gtx 670 have 2gb/4gb version, not 3gb. We can't really afford gtx 670 4gb or gtx 680 4gb.

660ti is only close when it comes to 1080p, when you run 5760x1080p its a different ball game. If you only can get 1 Card, I would advise just saving a bit more and getting a 670 4gb or a 7970 (or 7950 and OC) 3gb

The vram wouldn't matter when the card is that limited by the bandwidth bus at that resolution. vram is only a problem when you don't have enough, and when you play mm 3/4gb's is about the sweet spot

I think that it is enough for now Crysis 3 has really pushed vram a lot and other games are surely to use more vram in the future, it also comes into play if you play any games like Skyrim (which is beautiful modded) that uses a lot more vram.

Honestly, Having triple monitors when I had only 1 670 was almost a downgrade from single monitor 1080p because I could max games @1080p with that easily, but you have to turn everything down a lot more when you have that type of 1 card set up to hit 60fps. And from what I've found anyways, AMD has always had the upper hand when diving into high resolution gaming of any kind.

I can't specifically attest to eyefinity, but I do love nvidia surround. I wouldn't go back to single monitor gaming if I could, even if that personally means having an SLI system to run modern games at 60+fps

Either 2x7950s or 2x670 4GB will do nicely OP.

Thats the minimum budget of gpu power for Triple Screen Gameplay.

No, AMD Eyefinty is the boss.
Even a pair of lowly HD 7870 can surpass GTX 660Ti SLI in high-res multi-monitors wink.gif

I favor the cheaper ones for the same performance OR the faster ones for the same price biggrin.gif
Maybe yes, because since I changed from FX 5900 to X800 XT, I was quite impressed, so I have been keeping using ATI but skipping the HD 2900 XT and using HD 3870 instead.
Before that, I used Nvidia, maybe because in my country at the time, I didn't have a choice for very few ATI products. tongue.gif

If you're set on Nvidia then if you want decent frames you'll want a pair of 4GB 670s. The 660 Ti and lower don't have the memory bandwidth to push 3 monitors.
I highly recommend you go with a pair of 7950/7970s though, they are much much more suited for multi monitor gaming and are cheaper.
