[Build Log] The Avenger

Hello. So for my second system, I wanted something a little higher end than my first, which was a very low-budget gaming system centered around a Core2Duo and EVGA GTX 460. I am very satisfied with the system, and it still runs games like Skyrim and Arkham City like a boss. This time though, I really wanted a bang, but still be reasonable in price. All the hardware of my last PC cost less than $1000 USD (peripherals n/i) This new system will cost twice that much, if not a little more. According to my wishlist off NewEgg, where I will be getting all the hardware except the GPUs, it's currently totaling $1,613.90. Add my two video cards, which currently expecting to spend 175.99 a piece, and the total comes to a whopping $1,965.88. Add in the two extra peripherals I will be buying much later, a Razer Deathstalker Ultimate KB (249.99) and a second monitor (ASUS VE278H 27"; 259.99) to replace my much older Dell 19" standard, and it rises even higher to $2475.86. My current main monitor, an Acer 23" will be downgraded to my secondary monitor, and the flat screen will go the way of the dodo bird. I am not replacing my current mouse, which is a Razer Naga Epic, as I am quite happy with it, since I play LOTRO quite bit (if you do too, look me up on the Gladden server; name is Azaryah). I am working on buying one piece every two weeks, or two pieces if I can afford it so it will take a while to get all the parts, but I am very much looking forward to having it finished.

I am going to be liquid-cooling this boss by modifying the Bigwater 760 Pro route to include the GPUs, and then the Chipsets as money permits. I am not planning on any overclocking until the system is almost fully liquid cooled. This will help minimize the sound. For those wondering why I went with the AX1200w instead of the AX1200i, the extra perk for managing voltages through software did not justify spending an extra $50. The AX1200w has all the same features minus the DSP.

I am also planning on maxing at the RAM when I can. The Motherboard supports a whopping 32GB, but I find that since I will SLI up to 4GB of Vram, 8GB will be suifficient for the amount of gaming I do, and the type of games I play.

EDIT: I've decided to upgrade to a couple 660 FTWs. This just means it will take a little longer to complete the build.

EDIT: I went ahead and upgraded to the unlocked 3770k for its overclocking ability and the standard 660 FTW went out of stock, so I'm going with their signature 2 FTW, which is virtually the same. I think the clocks are only slightly different.

EDIT: I have also temporarily decided to forego liquid cooling at the moment and go with a Noctua NH-u12s and possibly using custom air coolers for the VGAs.

EDIT: Since my case cools like a boss and the VGA I am going with will have two fans, I've decided to forego the custom coolers.

EDIT: Found Two 660 TI 3GB for only 240 a piece at the OCN Marketplace, so I purchased them instead of the 660 FTWs. Much better deal I'd say.

So I have received my Case and my power supply. I have transferred my current hardware to the case to test out them both, and I am very satisified. The case is AMAZINGLY QUIET, even with the fans at full speed. I was a little disappointed that there was a small defect in the paint on the large grille on the side panel, and one of the fan connectors was defective, but a quick email to Rosewill, and they are sending me replacements. I was very much impressed with their customer service, and if their service continues to be that great, they will have a customer for life.

This looks very intersting. Case lighting would make it even more epic. Subscribed!

Also; If you're interesting in gaming with this much of a budget I would compromise some stuff and buy a better gpu just to let that 3770 fly.

Edit: Sorry, just realized dual gpu's.

You might as well scrap that Thermaltake Bigwater if intend on cooling almost everything in your rig. The pump in the unit is nowhere near powerful enough to push through that many waterblocks, much less the additional radiator/s you will need, plus the included cpu block is god awful. I would look toward snagging a used *REFERENCE* HD 7970 from the OCN Marketplace, especially since you are going to watercool your gpu's. Paying ~$100 per block to cool those 550Ti's, on top of the price per card, makes no sense when you could get a 7970 + waterblock for the same price or less, and have much better performance, especially at higher resolutions. Hell, even a GTX580 beats two 550Ti's in SLI. Everything else about your rig is great, I would just reconsider the gpu solution you have chosen.

I thoroughly agree. My suggestion on a better gpu was to let that nice cpu perform on its full capacity. But if you're interested in gaming you can get a much better gpu. Also, if you want to go even better could compromise some bits and pieces on the peripherals which can even lead you to buying better compontents. Razer is superb, but thoroughly expensive.

Yeah, I understand the peripheral part. I currently have a Razer Naga Epic, and I really like it, so I thought I would go with another Razer Product for a keyboard replacement.

What would you recommend as a liquid cooling solution? I would like something that can easily hide inside the case. I don't really want anything sticking out of the case if I can avoid it. Also, I did decide to upgrade my GPUs, but I'm avoiding ATI. I've had issue's with Radeons, and they have failed to impress me. I've swapped out two 550ti's for two 660 FTWs. it's a extra $200, but it will just mean it will take longer to build.

It's already got some decent red lighting that is not overbearing or gaudy. I'll get some pics to show you what it looks like.

I can see, I also have a Naga Molten I really like, but just be sure ti read reviews as a company might have good products and bad products. Mechanic keys are awesome and I don't think the Deathstalker has them. But the screen part is terrific and can be awesome in games like WoW, BF3 or Skyrim. I'm just saying you should read some rveiews before buying.
