It's not a question of "if", it is a question of "when!"

P.S. They should rename HD-DVD. It looks so bad on cases and commercials. It's way too long compared to its DVD counterpart. Ugh. God the name is so ugly.

HD-DVD is cool looking, but without the acronym super long, imagine everytime saying , "hi, do you have any High-Definition (or high density) Digital Versatile Disks"? they should call it like SVD, superior versatile disk, and why is it versatile?

HD-DVD may not look "cool" but the name is very purposeful. It's also useful to those who may not know much about technology in general.

Think about it. In this day and age people know what DVD means and they usually know what HD means. Put those together and average consumers can readily grasp the product. It has been brought up before that one reason HD-DVD may catch on quicker with people is because its competitor, Blu-Ray, is ambiguously named. Most consumers won't know, or care, that Blu-Ray is named because a blue-violet laser is used with it.

I like the blue-violet laser! Plus Blu-Ray doesn't sound that bad.

It's not the creators fault that consumers are lazy and/or stupid.

Just call it DVD2.

I've never ate anything that started with Blu, nor anything that ended with Ray.

I don't think I would eat anything that started with Blu or ended with Ray in the first place

Until game developrers learn to utilize the PS3's power properly, (or until MGS4 or GT5 come out if youre a big sony fan) get a 360. These screens are too close to tell the difference. There is more HDR on the 360 in Fight Night, but the PS3 has more in Tony Hawk. But you really wouldn't care that much unless you had them side by side.

Better yet: If you're an Xbox fanboy, get the 360. If you're a PlayStation fanboy get the PS3. There no way these screenshots would change a fan's mind.

BTW just so you guys know, HD-DVD also uses a blue laser. The short wavelength allows for reading narrower channels, hence the higher density.

Ah, so here we get to the nitty gritty of naming products. The point is, companies know that a small percentage of people are like those you find on this site. Average consumers are not the most tech-savvy people you'll find. It has nothing to do with laziness or stupidity. Some people simply don't have hobbies involving technology. Companies want to create a new name and a new identity for their products.

And for those reading, I'm not siding with HD-DVD or Blu-Ray in this particular thread, especially considering it's about a graphics comparison, I'm just offering an objective view. It's just frustrating to read all these fanboyish or baseless opinions.

I understand, I just think that the average consumer should research a product before they buy it; that is the laziness and stupidity that I am talking about. I don't mean they are lazy or stupid for not knowing, but that they are stupid for not researching.
