i think the quality is fine to demonstrate the effect, I do suggest making a proper showcase video when it's done. Would really love to see that sound activated EL wire pounding away in a filled case. thumb.gif

Them and Bassnectar are my secret musical likes. They remind me of the good old days of the late 80's/early 90's and hitting the raves... back when raves were still a very underground thing. Jesus, I'm old.

I'll make a proper video with non-suck quality once everything is completed. The hard part really will be balancing the sensitivity of the sound module to avoid picking up the internal case noise (fans, PSU, etc) without also having to have the external sound source detection be jumbo jet loud. While I've put an effort into going with silent pc components where possible, there will still be some ambient noise. It also depends on where I mount the sound module. The easiest place is on the backside of the mobo along where the usual tangle of fan cables end up but it's not the best for sound detection. I'll probably rig it in the top bay area under the Switch vent on top up near the power switch. This should avoid picking up air flow sound from the top rad and still be close enough to the surface to easily pick up external sounds.

Thanks Mike! I really like the clean look you managed on your Switch 810 build. That almost baby blue color really pops out against the white.

So question for you more experienced watercoolers: Fan & pump management

Should I stick with SpeedFan, use the ASUS on-board UEFI fan controller (Q-Fan?), or a use dedicated fan control box? I have a NZXT Sentry Mesh I can migrate to the new build... which I'd need to tear down and paint white but that's actually a fun bonus project.

I'm only going to be running maybe 4 fans total (2 for top rad, 1 for rear rad, 1 intake front over HDD's) and the pump. I use a mix of operating systems so a windows-specific software solution isn't my preference.

I'm in love with the sound-activated lights. I can't wait to see how the finished build will turn out considering all the variables you listed that'll effect them. Still though, that alone made your build my favorite so far.

& I haven't heard of the artist you and someone else mentioned, but I did like the song you played. Time to YouTube!!

So. I'm waiting on a sleeving kit to arrive from performance-pcs. The heatshrink I picked up from Frozencpu wasn't very good. It shrunk to maybe half if I got lucky. Nowhere near the 3 to 1 ratio I'm used to out of quality heatshrink. As a result the front panel cables are going to be redone with white sleeving. I'll also be doing the fans while I'm at it.

The sleeving kit arrived yesterday and I spent some time working on cables. I got the front panel, the pump, and the fans ready to go:

Here I am voiding my warranty wink.gif

Ta-da!

Some notes: This was my first time sleeving my own cables. I picked up the Phobya sleeving toolkit along with the Techflex sleeving from performance-pcs. The Techflex kit had a good mix of sleeve sizes to start with as I wasn't reall certain which sizes I'd need most. I had expected the sleeving to be more of a cloth-like material so was surprised when it was more like fishing line plastic in a tight weave. However, it was easy to work with and expanded very well so I didn't have to remove every single cable plug. I'm not sure I'm enamored with the final results though. There is still bleed-through of the original wire colors. I seriously considered yanking off the sleeving, painting the wires white, and re-sleeving... but I went to bed instead.

Are there better sleeving material options out there I should look at? Or specific vendors/brands? This is especially true if I want a more flexible/smooth cloth-like feel. Recommendations would be much appreciated.

Doesn't look bad on pictures but I understand how you would feel with the bleed thru.

From reading around the forums I hear this is the best places.
