Crossfire mismatched cards - Page 2

Yes they will downclock to the lower card, this is a feature specific to AMD at the moment. You can combine two cards from a 78xx or 79xx or 77xx etc series as long as the two cards have the same 7x digit. IE the 78s can crossfire with each other and the 79s can crossfire with each other. The faster card will only run as fast as the slowest card though. So if you have a 7870 and a 7850 they will be ran as two 7850s. Hope I explained this well enough.

I cannot say this is true but it makes sense. as of my previous post... I can only experience this once I get a 7970 to crossfire to my 7950. Only then I can tell if its correct or wrong.....

But also I do hope a guy who actually owns a hybrid crossfired 7970 and 7950 can share his experience and possibly a screenshot will stop all these debates on going....

I owned a 7970 and 7950 in crossfire and i can tell you that the cards do work at their own specification.

But it doesn't matter how much more clock speed you have on one of the cards as it will never really increase performance anyway. It still works just as fast as what the slowest card is clocked to it seems. Should be the same for the 78xx too.

at stock the slower cards are the 7950 and the 7850 that's for sure. but oc'ed the 7950 could be the faster card. in the case of the 78XXs, i've never seen a 7850 beat a 7870 even oc'ed.
