CPU FAN will not max!

Thread Starter
My cpu 965 x4 BE 125w is on stock cooling. No problem cause I'm not planning on overclcoking voltage. But to stay under MAX Operating Temps I have to Underclock the voltage. I have tried everything to run the FAN at max but it will not do it. I disable all smart fan control in BIOS but RPM's idle at 3500 with idle temp of around 40c. When I run Prime the RPM's easily go up past 6000 RPMs... So obviously its not running max all the time... Its a 4pin fan plugged into 4pin cpu fan slot on the MB.

I have tried Speedfan and Easy Tune with no success. Easy tune says the RPM is in fact 100% but that is bull cause I can watch it on HWmonitor and other programs and the RPM's fluctuate sure sign its not max all the time. It is way to quiet... I just need to know how to hard wire this sucker to my psu and forget about it. But I cant seem to find any good tutorials or good info on hat subject matter. Fan controllers are often brought p but I have never seen one with both 4 pin connectos on both ends and the slot doesnt look like it would fit a 4 pin.

Please help me hard wire, the colors are blue yellow red black in order...

and if you connect the fan where is not the PWM connector on mobo? these fan will think that is a case fan(I understood that u want to max fan RPM al the time)

Yeah tried onnecting to 3 pin NB fan connector same excact result the whole computer thinks its maxed yet increases RPMs as needed makes no sense

Try a PWM to molex adapter, this should run your fan at max speed all the time.

ok thats probably my solution I'll get one and get back to you thanks for the quick help.

I thought it would fix my problem but of course I cant look at RPMs, but it isnt any cooler at all and is making no noise seems to be running max 3500 RPMs. I really thought that would fix my problem but I actually get better temps with it plugged into the mobo.. ? I know that doesnt make any sense I should see the same temps at the very least but maybe its not speeding up as the cpu heats anymore letting it become hotter. This whole thing has me at a loss. I will just buy a REAL cooler later down the road seeing as how it is impossable to max this fan out without running the cpu 65c..... If someone figures this out I'm sure it would help a lot of people.

I believe the fan has its own speed control based on the air temp. Not sure how you would fix it.

AFAIK the fan that comes on the stock cooler has a thermistor on the back of the fan hub that controls the speed (this was the case on my old 955 BE), you can adjust it manually up to a certain point (in the BIOS or using speedfan etc.) which is nowhere near its max speed, and the thermistor will automatically adjust it the rest of the way depending on the temperature.

Doesn't explain why you are having problems with the CPU getting so hot however..

Edit: nvidiaftw12 beat me to it tongue.gif

No cooling is adequate.... I just know I can get better cooling if I could keep it up to 7000+ rpms On stock voltage now running prime for 30 min temps dont go over 62 which is max operating temp... I just dont want to be running anywhere near that... Oh well as I said I'll just get a new better cooler eventually... Thanks Very Much for the help and info!

The thing will easily do 7,000RPM.

However, it is cripped by motherboard PWM or voltage control, and a thermistor attached to the fan motor PCB.
