For the price that the FX-6300 costs brand new, I'd personally go for the newer chip. That's just me though.
nice anandtech updated their bench page, also with sysmark 2012

AMD was on top with the Athlon 64...... and then poof, it was gone.
Shows exactly what you'd expect. The i3 is faster in single threaded applications(we know that will be true), but loses out in multi threaded stuff. In fact, where the software is able to make use of multiple cores, it loses out heavily. POV RAY Multi Threaded is 50% higher on the FX-6300, as is H264.

Overclocking will probably turn the tables on the i3 in the places that it's faster, which is a dance that the i3 can not do.

LoL, just being messy...
side note.. I can run my i3-3220 @ 3.7GHz with a dose of the BLK... biggrin.gif

Yeah, I know it can take a slight OC but it's harder to do and since I err on the side of laziness I'd go with an unlocked i5, or an FX, lol!

I do agree though, I'd have liked the FX chips to have more of a gap between them and the PH 2 or even the i3. Fact is though the PD chips are faster than PH2, and I'd take an FX-6300 over an i3 any day. As to the title of the topic, no they certainly are not as bad as what some people say they are. End of the day, you can run anything you want on them. The fact that they're cheap also appeals to me since I not only err on the side of laziness but also cheapskatedness...

Why wait? Get a Vishera, Bulldozer or Trinity and run 3000 now smile.gif. http://hwbot.org/benchmark/memory_clock/rankings?hardwareTypeId=memory_1#start=0#interval=20

AMD CPU-s are not bad they are the CPU-s that most of the people out there afford to buy.
And they do anything a normal user needs.
You may have cheaper Intel parts in the USA ,but around the world situation is different Spending more dollars / euros or whatever ,for 2 more FPS is stupid this times..

On the other hand no sane person believes blindly about what people say on the internets.
The FX 4100 is not so crappy as the world mouth was saying and i was able to see that only buying and testing by myself.

This thread is totally useless as will turn into the "versus" type of threads..

It is indeed broken. Written at 5AM in my area (I think?) it really messed my head up
But the FX4100 isn't as crappy as it is but the architecture IS crappy. Being extremely power hungry as such. The performance to power ratio of bulldozer is very backward.
Probably something like a Presler but i'm not so sure but yeah, the first 8150s i saw WAS at 223W TDP. Holy cow

I was going to get a new computer and i was thinking between FX4300 and FX6300 (40$ difference here ...) and a decent OCable mobo would set me back by quite a lot.
But in the end i got a used EX58-UD5 and a used L5520. Piledriver can dream about 60W TDP (40-50W with turbo and HT off actually) on a Quad-core but it won't be getting to me because 990x motherboards are not cheap either that's what i don't really like and i at least wanted to eventually CF some 7870 Tahiti LEs (Wasn't out yet back then). To be frank with you, AMD motherboards cost the same but lacks some features like a crapload of USB3 on the Z77X-D3H vs the 990FXA-D3
The only thing about 790fx up to 990fx is having 38 lanes of PCI-E 2.0 goodness compared to Intel Z68 owners who has had to compel with 24 PCI-E 2.0 lanes. Now with Z77+IVB having PCI-E 3.0 the story is vastly different. It's like a 48 PCI-E 2.0 lane motherboard
But AMD owners couldn't use 38 lanes efficiently anyway without a serious bottleneck

Don't fool yourself, Vishera is just as power hungry as Zambezi was. My FX 8320 right now pulls ~600W from the wall by itself at 5016mhz, and I don't even need as much voltage as some guys do to get there.
