Deck Legend USB for NKRO

Thread Starter
Hi guys, I am strongly considering buying a Deck Legend Frost off Amazon.. I have to purchase it from Amazon because I have a gift card.

Here is my dilemma: They only have it available in USB.. no PS/2 option.

Now i have currently a Rosewill with MX Blacks which I like..but I want the tactile of the MX Clears.

I've been trying to find keyboards with MX Clears for years but it seems as though the Deck Tactiles are the only ones in the states.

Does anyone have any experience using a Deck Legend with USB instead of PS/2?

Do you find that the lack of NKRO (6 character limit) ruins gameplay at times? I'm yet to limit myself to a USB keyboard so I am really concerned that I will end up screwing myself with the lack of N-Key Rollover.

Any thoughts?

I use a CM Storm Quickfire Pro but it has NKRO through USB but in all honesty I never notice a difference when gaming, typing or otherwise ( okay maybe when I sleep on my keyboard I want it to type EVERYTHING I press but that's beside the point) 6KRO is plenty enough for anything if you ask me but that's just my personal observations perhaaaps the Deck would be a bit different with PS/2 but I really don't think so.

I don't think you'll have a problem with 6 key to be perfectly honest. Granted I only type at 90 wpm so I don't really hit 6 keys at any point in time at that would perhaps warrant the necessity of NKRO. Also, MAYBE if you want to use super crazy modifiers with 2 extra keys like Ctrl+Alt + Shift+C+V+F4 ?

A slight bit more info from the Mechanical Keyboard guide that might help ease your worries about NKRO http://www.overclock.net/t/491752/mechanical-keyboard-guide/0_100#post_6009418

Yeah I've delved through the mechanical keyboard world over and over and over again. It's not just the 6 key limit, it is the issue of having ghosting or whatever.

As in.. if you are pressing WSA you can't press E.. type of thing.

My friend has the same keyboard I have now, a Rosewill mechanical, and he has it hooked up by USB instead of the optional PS/2 and he runs into NKRO all the time. He says he just can't hit a third key because of the way the keys ghost. I think i've found a solution to how to get the Deck..

Now my concern is.. Do I actually want to blow almost $200 on a keyboard when I already have a pretty good one =P

The Deck has 6 key rollover over USB, which means ANY 6 keys at once. It will not have any ghosting or lockups if you are pressing 6 or less keys at a time.

You will only run into an issue with that during extreme combos on a game you're playing with two hands on the keyboard. The only example of locking on 6KRO I have is when I was really into the Tony Hawk games on PC, If I rotated while doing a grab trick, spine transfer, did a roll, was holding grind for when I hit a rail, then suddenly decided I needed to hit the walk key before releasing the other keys... it's a pretty extreme case even then. In an extreme case like that, it will just ignore your last key press.

If you decide to get the Deck, note that it will not work with a USB to PS/2 adapter. However, on the old Decks you were able to swap from USB to PS/2 with a little soldering. I'm not completely sure that is still the case, but I never heard of them changing that.
