for that money you won't find anything worth buying witha TOSLINK. You may be able to find used. If your absolutely stuck on TOSLINK a Home A/V receiver would be your best bet in that kind of cash. Used would get you a better unit for the money.
Don't get me wrong, there are TONS of TOSLINK DAC's on the market, but they are cheap cheap cheap. $25-75 and they sound terrible from what I have heard in the past.
Warning: Personal Opinion INCOMING!
There is nothing wrong with USB or Coaxial/Optical DAC's at all. Here is a combo I fell in love with for budget audio on a PC.PUP-DAC
This little guy is AMAZING. Easily comparable to DAC's twice its price. Well worth the money for any audio enthusiast.Daton DTA-100a
I got one for a customer build, I can't stop using them now. Simply amazing value here.
There are many passive speaker's that you can pair with this combo and its just amazing for the money spent. Also usable as a headphone audio solution too.
Just for giggles here is another budget audio set I have used multiple times in the past and never heard a complaint, Although you seem to be far more advanced of an audio geek for this little system to appeal.GRUB-DAC
Probably the cheapest DAC I would ever recommend to anyone. It won't render anyone speechless but performs very well for the money.Lepai 2.1 channel AMP
Again, won't render anyone speechless but is full of option's that make it a great unit for PC's and Laptop sound system's. Also work's as a headphone amp too! Its one of the few AMPS that will allow the use of a sub, But I have only used them with powered sub's and passive speaker's. Was never able to find a passive sub I liked that fit the AMP well...Some one else might know of one or two.If your OK with Creative Click Here.
I have no personal experiance but a few people I game with rave about them, I cannot vouch for how well tunes their ear's are though. Thought about buying one just to try it....but its Creative Lab's....
