I am using software to multibox Eve Online on my computer. First off, this is not against the EULA and there are "pilots" that use the same software to multibox pvp in high profile tournaments that are sponsored by CCP themselves. I am not doing anything related to macro'ing that would be considered illegal. Technically, I could just go to windowed mode and start the clients up the same way manually.

Now into my dilemma - I am running a GTX 670 FTW and trying to multibox 20 Eve Online clients at minimum settings. The software I use will try to keep the foreground client @ 60 fps and the background clients at 15 fps.

I can currently load ~13-14 clients and maintain the FPS settings, but after that its starts to dip quickly. Mouse becomes sluggish across the desktops, active window is hard to click on / make active / etc.

When I have all 20 clients fully loaded, I am seeing the following usages:
CPU: 10-20% utilization
Memory: 14/32 GB Used (can fluctuate as high as 18GB used when I get in game)
GPU Core: 55% Load
GPU Memory Controller: 8-10% (I think this is some bogus monitor in GPU-Z that tells nothing)
GPU VRAM Used: 1.4-1.5 GB (Card has 2 GB)

I never fully bottleneck anything on my system from what I can tell, and I have tried running the clients at 1680x1050 each (it gets scaled down, but still essentially rendering the full number of pixels) which make it a little smoother w/ 20 loaded. Normal resolution is like 1920x1138 due to windowed mode and task bar avoidance. This resolution is the same for all of the clients to maintain window accuracy for relaying keyboard/mouse commands.

My only thought is that the memory bus is getting overloaded on the video card and even though the utilization is not max'd in terms of load/vram usage, it simply cannot pass anymore simultaneous data through the memory bus.

I found this forum post, which I think is similar to what I am seeing - with the sheer number of pixels being generated, the memory bus just falls flat on it's face.

Which brings me to my next question - what is the appropriate upgrade/solution?

I am trying to come up with a way to isolate half the clients on one video and put the other half on a GTX 460 1GB I plugged in recently, but due to a "swapping" feature with this software, I get a huge fps penalty splitting up the clients. This might just require some tweaking on my end.

My other thought was looking for a single card upgrade to do the same thing. I don't want to really buy a titan due to the sheer cost, but the memory bus looks insane on them. My only other thoughts are to betray my love for nvidia and give a 7970 a shot for the time being. FPS benchmarks seem to be useless in this scenario until I can resolve this memory bottleneck. My friend loaded up 30 clients on his 7970 tri-fire setup the other night and it wasnt free of stuttering, but the FPS numbers were there. He said 25 was no problem. I would assume with tri-fire he is still dealing with the memory bus limitations of a single card? Correct me if I am wrong, but CF/Tri-Fire is like SLI in that you split GPU core load, but only have the effective memory of a single card, but is that the case with memory bandwidth as well ? I assume if card 2 is rendering different clients, the memory bus on that card isnt seeing the same load as if it was a single card system. Just throwing this up for general thoughts/comments I guess.
