Funny (read: DUMB) Facebook comment - can't mix ATi GPU and Intel CPU

So we have a local League of Legends Facebook group that discusses the game, how to play, etc., and someone threw up some of their components they were looking to add to their new PC and was basically asking for people's advice on what looked good and everything. Immediately everyone started bashing watercooling, etc., but this comment made me laugh pretty hard --
Quote:
It is (semi) common knowledge that AMD processors go best with ATI graphics cards while Intel processors go best with Nvidia graphics cards. I personally made the mistake of mixing an ATI with an Intel. That was 3 years ago. I still haven't forgiven myself.

Am I wrong for laughing? I've run both and haven't had any problems with either, as long as I knew what I was doing (which is relatively little given how easy it is to maintain). I don't know. I thought it was bogus.

a lot of misconceptions in computer hardware. luckily we have standards and can inform people of their errors.

I'm not surprised by this; the overall LoL community is bad in too many way. Intelligence and courtesy being two big ones.

Very funny though!

Even for some tech salesmen still have these misconceptions. I accidentally overheard a salesman at MicroCenter advising his customer buying a new laptop. I don't remember exactly but something like "This laptop has an Intel Core i5, BUT it has a AMD video card. I think you should choose the laptop over there because it has the same CPU as this laptop, but has Nvidia video card which is MOAR compatible with Intel than AMD" biggrin.gif

Heck I have ran both nVidia and ATI on the same AMD CPU....just gotta make sure to uninstall the drivers. That is like saying a MSI (ati or nvidia) video card is more compatible with MSI boards or that corsair fans or more with corsair PSUs...You can have a different brand of almost every part and it still run. Even ram as long as the volts and timings are right.

Thanks for the support. My bull**** meter was blaring when I glossed over that. The guy's one of these people that talks down to others when it comes to tech because he believes himself some kind of hotshot because he works at a IT helpdesk for a local college.

Haha that is hilarious man. I love when people say that. I'm running a 3770k at 4.8Ghz and two 7950's in crossfire and it runs like a dream.

"Hmmm, lets me see. AMD and ATI are simillllar soooo if my calculations are correct the letters of the two matching up MUST be the best combo because very few letters in intel match with ATi. Me is a GENIUS!!!"
