Hmm...maybe Diablo 3 has something to be concerned about after all?

Nah...probably not.

PoE has regularly been topping Diablo 3 on Twitch for some time, and it's only in beta. It's only going to go downhill from here for Diablo 3.

Let me know how that PvP turns out though, if it ever happens. smile.gif

This game is nothing short of bloody spectacular. Everyone I've introduced to the game is very hooked on it. I've spent well over a few hundred hours playing it since the Closed Beta period, and I really, really suggest that anyone with prior D2 or D2X experience, or any inclination at all to even try the game, do so. You will be pleasantly surprised at how much this game has to offer.

Maybe I am missing something...anyone know how to make the loot just show up on screen without having to hit a button?

I'm also not a big fan of doing away with gold as a currency and using a barter system...but that is just being picky on my part.

If you haven't checked it out, give it a go. It is free to play.

Open the Options Panel, goto the UI tab. Put Checkmarks on: 'Always Highlight' and 'Show full Description'

done.

Happy that people enjoy it though.

I think a lot of people are just playing it to give a finger to blizzard/D3, as opposed to being really into the game itself. I've tried it a few times, and it's just mediocre.

What sense would that make? Play a game to give the finger to a company?
There's so many games out there, why would anyone play a game they don't like?

I'm loving PoE and hate D3, if I thought PoE was mediocre I wouldn't play it.

Lots of people still play D3 and go around saying how horrible of a game it is at the same time tongue.gif.

People play it and get into it because they want it to be good. They want it to be tons better and more popular then D3... that can and will play a role in convincing you POE is better then it really is.

Granted, there will be a bunch of people that don't give a crap about D3 and honestly like POE too... but I think the PO'd D3 players are a sizeable chunk.

Heh...plus I am nervous about the developer's name, "Grinding Gear Games" I've played to many MMOs to become nervous at the word Grind and Gear in the same phrase.

Diablo 3 has Diablo 3 to be concerned about...

There's an option to turn on loot names, or just hit Z

I think a lot of people are just playing it to give a finger to blizzard/D3, as opposed to being really into the game itself. I've tried it a few times, and it's just mediocre.

Path of Exile starts very slow, and is very overwhelming to begin with. Gameplay and battle feels clunky because your character is level 1. He/She attacks and moves slowly, has little to no gear, has little to no skills. The game makes you feel more and more badass as your progress, so giving a character anything less than a couple hours isn't even the tip of the iceberg. Melee does have its struggles, but there are decent enough melee AoE abilities (Cleave, Ground Slam, Leap Slam, etc.) that melee can be quite viable. It just takes a bit better gearing. This is typical of most of these games, you need to build tanky to survive melee or you get hit too hard. Ranged typically has it easier as you can kite mobs that hit like trucks.

I have three characters now. Level 24 Marauder who's going 2H axe dealing physical damage, probably going to end up with sweep as my primary skill, but trying it with cleave for the time being. Level 43 Duelist who up until the tree change felt very underpowered. I'm still deciding how I want to respec his points and then I'll start playing him again. My primary is a level 69 Ranger, focusing on Elemental damage using Lightning Arrow and attack speed. Character is a ton of fun, feel pretty bad ass, but still hit walls where mobs hit like trucks and you have to finesse your way through.

The game has it all, and each piece of gear and each new skill opens up completely new builds. If this game felt like the same old song and dance, you're doing it wrong. Choose a melee class (marauder for example) and build him to use magic and wands, think outside the box a bit. This game allows you to play the way you want to play, and with whatever class you want. It's quite dynamic, though it does require some tweaking.
