See it's funny because I was also able to get around not having a start menu and learning to either use the desktop without it or rely a bit on Metro. I rarely used Metro or the Win8 Apps. I think it has to do with the inability to manage multiple apps at once. For someone on dual monitors who is surfing the internet and shuffling music around, it was odd to have 2 different layouts running or attempt to use a single monitor but manage multiple apps.

With that said I had to ditch Win8 because it was so unstable for me. The sheer number of blue screens, failed application loads, random reboots, and trouble installing programs at times baffled me. It's a bad sign with Windows 8 and Microsoft's now owned Skype won't play well no matter what. Maybe it was a bad Win8 install but I immediately switched back after 2 months to Win7. Not a single issue since then/

I only mention it because people talk about how stable and fast Win8 is but it seems to be more of a YMMV situation. Vista was a dump, Win7 is like NT of olden days, and Win8 is a toss up.
