Intel burn test is throttling the cpu

Thread Starter
3570k at 4.4 Passes prime95 for 12+ hours and cpu-z shows 4400mhz Runs great and games all day here.

Tried intel burn test...passes every time but throttles to 4100 after 30 seconds. Tried upping the voltage slowly all the way up to 1.3 and that actually made it a tad worse.

ITB bugged or do I have more tweaking to do?

it throttles because it is overheating probably. what are your temps when running ibt? more voltage will make your cpu run even hotter which is why you saw an even worse change when you upped it to 1.3v. what are you using to cool it?

H110 temps hit low 70c's in IBT

I'm running IBT now on a 3.8 overclock all 4 cores .992v and it doesn't throttle the clocks at all. Perhaps I have more tweaking than I thought.

Probably power throttling, especially if it is worse at higher voltages. Check your BIOS for settings like CPU Current Limit or CPU Power Limit (sometimes called Long Duration Power Limit and Short Duration Power Limit). Turn all of those up (you can just max them out without concern) and see if that helps.

Holy hell! Duh! Lol, that did the trick. Long was at 77w and short at 0w. The board was essentially bottle-necking itself. Set both max at 255. Running ITB right now at 4400mhz steady.

After that it's time to go for broke smile.gif

Thank you very much!

I am having the same problem! After 2 days of testing i got sub 70 temps on 4.6 and after a while the cpu always throttles back to 3.5 on intel burn test and wprime or prime95, no matter if I never reached 70C, another thing to notice is that it always throttle when there is a change on the power consumption between tests.

Im not in my home now but when I arrive I'll change the parameters of CPU Power Limit and see if its going to work!

Excellent, glad it worked.

Okay so I arrive at home and set both CPU Current Limit and CPU Power Limit to 500 and still got the same throttle on my cpu to 3.5ghz.

My system is:

AsRock z77 pro4
16gb ddr3 1600mhz
xfx 7950 @1000/1450
i7 3770k 4.6ghz
Corsair H100

I had increased the voltage and got almost 85C and still no success, here is a pic of prime95 Small FFTs after a couple of minutes.

Am I doing something wrong or this is normal?

Same test giving same results at decreased voltage and low temperatures for a cpu to throttle, i'm reading everywhere that the throttling temps are near 100C and mine throttle at sub 70C, this have something to do with speed step technology or something like this shouldn't happen at all?

Does it do it with a 4.2 overclock? Perhaps the 4+2 phase on the Pro4 can't keep up and the VRM is overheating.

You are right, I checked on the motherboard and the VRM is very hot, I changed the direction of the fans on my h100 to ventilate the case, it was on exaust before, now is a lot more stable, It is at 4.8 at low 80C and no throttling until now, tonight Im gonna let it running and see if it holds.

Thank you very much for the advice!
