8350 not getting a decent oc, am i doing it wrong? trying for 5 ghz - Page 3

I really want to stop hearing these things about Prime95 not being a good stress test for FX.

If its not stable in Prime, its not stable.

I have run: OCCT, HyperPi, Prime95, and AMD OD Stability Test for hours on several FX machines I have assembled recently.

and I can say that Prime gets these chips the hottest and stresses them the hardest, I dont OC these chips too much for my customers, but I will not let them get a machine thats not at least Prime Stable.

If I can get 24hours out of a 4100 at 4.2 and a 6300 at 4.0 with out failing Prime then there is no excuse for anyone saying Prime95 is not a effective or reliable stress test for FX series chips, or specifically (Piledriver, as one gentleman put it)

especially if you do a custom test and have it use maximum amount of ram, your entire system begins roasting.

People with piledriver (meaning fx-X3XXcpus) have been having issues with prime 95 specifically. It has on countless occasions failed chips at stock. You can go to the club in my sig rig and ask them if you don't want to believe me. People have been stable on every single other stress test on the planet for hours on end, but prime will still manage to send errors.

I will include, that I myself have actually not experienced any problems while using prime with my 8350. I just know a lot of people that have, and it isn't a recommended stress test with these cpus.

That's fantastic, I use prime with my 8350 and am stable at 12+ hours. I have also never been mugged, but that is no reason to assume that it won't happen to anyone else.

thats a horrible analogy.

Fact remains if Prime is making your system BSOD or even fail, it is not stable, I dont care even if its at stock clocks which could easily be due to bad hardware or improper bios settings.

Not Prime Stable is not Stable.

Lol ok then i'll use a more direct one. You are saying that because a piece of SOFTWARE works for you it should work the exact same way for everyone else. Software companies should all just get rid of the troubleshooting and help for their products as it should work perfectly for everyone no matter what.

I'm done arguing about this with someone that is clearly not comfortable using anything but prime. They all do the exact same thing. There are people in the owners club that have shown to be stable with every single other stress testing program on the planet, but will fail a prime test at STOCK. You telling them "well mine works with prime" isn't going to change the fact that theirs DOES have an issue with prime.
Sorry AMD

Sorry OP but im too lazy to read everything to make sure i dont repeat anything. But here it goes.

It says you let your FSB stay at 200 which you shouldnt do. Most FX chips like a bit of FSB, 210-290. It can increase stability a lot. Use Load line calibration to compensate for Vdroop (ask me if you're not sure what this is) Try to make everything stay as close to stock as possible, especially the RAM and CPUNB. CPUVDDC Or whatever voltage was at 2.5V stock should be at 2.6V, it could improve stability quite a bit.
For reference my 8350 runs at 4.8 1.44V

ALSO Like someone above me said DONT use prime95, it will make most FX chips crash at stock.

If its not stable in Prime, its not stable.

@TheProfiteer The amounts of volts needed for an FX to stay stable on prime95 on even a small OC is WAY too high, and EVEN if it was stable is it really worth it? Its not like the chip will crash in everyday use if it passes IBT, LinX or even OCCT. So why put the chip through the extra volts and heat just to be able to say "my FX passes prime95" because no one really cares when you are at 4.2GHz 1.6V on a 8350.

i have not tried the fsb yet, i was doing 100% multiplyer and voltage to oc, so ill give it a try on the FSB since you say i need to to get it to work better smile.gif

well to update this... i tried my fsb to 240, my mult at 20x or stock, and turned my ram down because it was trying to run 1920 of course, and went into windows, run ibt and wont even do a pass of course, it just locks right up, i turned te voltage up to 1.66V to give the llc more head room, but it was pulling 1.53-1.55V before it locked up and it still wont go... its so darn happy sitting here at 4.6 but i cant seem to get it to go more lol

.

You sir are a troll and a geek............not prime stable=not stable?.. who the hell are you to tell someone his pc isnt stable just because it isnt prime stable.

Its nerds like you who give out bad information based upon their own experience.

Who the hell wants to run prime for over 12 hours just to say its prime stable lmao.....i can run prime at 5ghz with out no problems...but i wouldn't dream of running it over 12-24 hours to keep some nerd like you happy.

Did you pay for their pc....do you pay their energy bills?

no you dont so before you start sprouting your crap about prime will run anything start to actually learn what people are saying about it.......Not all piledriver chips run prime equally. its hit and miss

if you actually read through the net or through this site you would know this.

GEEK!
