uh it is, with a module disabled and lower multi.

They are all the same chip, they all start with a 4 module base, and then modules are disabled either because they are faulty or because they need to fill market segment demand, they even disable cache for the lower end Piledriver chips.

Would you like to hear more on AMD business practices?

some of the arguments here are absolutely hilarious.

”if it works for you doesn't mean it will work for others”, let's take that same argument for other programs. ” if Photoshop works for you on piledriver doesn't mean it will work for others”

”prime isn't meant to stress piledrivers”

And why is that? Piledriver all of a sudden too good of an architecture to submit it self a mersenne prime search?

”too many volts to maintain prime stability”

Yeah because your trying to push a heavy oc, you're going to need the volts.

My customers fx 6300 I clocked to 4.0.at 1.38 did prime just fine. 12hours blend, 12 hours small fft. On an 960g board to boot.

if Prime95 had a programming flaw that piledriver revealed it be prevalent across all chips, not just some for some people.

im stable at 5ghz thanks....are you?

far from being butthurt lol ive brought my lube have you?

nobody is saying prime fails all piledriver. if you actually learn to read properly you'd understand what i was trying to say.

How dare you tell people their pc's aren't stable just because its not prime stable...rolleyes.gif

Edit...oh and by the way IBT and OCCT run hotter than prime

I am not saying that there bugs out there that dont arise under very specific situations, sure there could be a conflict with Prime95 and certain configurations of FX chips and chipsets, and yes that would be Primes fault, but you dont go around saying "yo prime no work gud with Piledriver"

you document where the fault it is and try to steer people away from it. For example, Piledriver Chips on 990FX Chipsets with IMC set to 2000MHZ.

That I can understand, but the idea that Prime95 currently fails all Piledriver chips is just untrue.

"the idea that Prime95 currently fails all Piledriver chips is just untrue"

I never said this. I realize that it works for some, including me. It has presented itself, though; to be an issue for many many others . Using this logic when someone comes asking for help with an unusually low headroom for overclocking, why would you not recommend trying a different stress testing utility.

Also, i love that the guy you replied to just before you replied to me presented the EXACT same argument as me, and you immediately yielded.

i never said dont use other stress tests, in fact my recommendation is to use as many as possible.

My only argument in this thread is that if you pass everything else, but not Prime dont automatically assume Prime is broken, tinker around some more until you find the root cause of your problem. Test prime at stock, and I mean "stock default bio settings" and see if you have one of those configurations that fails Prime at stock.

If you Google Prime95 Wiki you'll come up a list of Updates on the Prime95 Program.
I believe it is:
Quote:
27.6 beta April 24, 2012[38] Bug fixes; (v27.5 was skipped;[39] the underlying math libraries went through a revision, but Prime95 was not modified.)

I'm on a work computer atm, that wont let me view the bug fix info. But there's one that states: does not work on Bulldozer CPU.

If you google Prime95 the top downloads are version 25.11, which it's possible many people were running this version and having issues (user error - due to older version)

Given proper cooling and working overclock settings I haven't noticed Prime95 fail when another program was able to pass (IBT-10 pass Maximum, OCCT, AOD)
I didn't notice if the OP managed to get a working overclock on their CPU. I wrote an Asus guide for these CPU's (in my Sig). Feel free to check it out. Hopefully it can bring some insight to overclocking on your ASRock board, if things are similar.
