In a world first, Japan announced March 12 that it had succeeded in producing methane gas from deposits of hydrates beneath the ocean floor. Making it commercially practical is another challenge entirely, say American scientists who have worked with the Japanese researchers.

You and me both buddy

Japan's always had alot to say when it comes to innovation and discovery, just a shame they've been cursed with land with very little natural resources. Makes you wonder what would've happened if olde Nippon had've held onto all those resource-rich colonies after the war.

So the methane eruptions that are causing death in the ocean can be put to good use before becoming destructive?
