Audigy 2 ZS melted in my PCI Socket w/pics--now what?

Thread Starter
Well, hence the title, my Audigy 2 ZS is bronken, and it looks like that PCI socket on my P5WD2 Premium is gone as well. Any way to clean that junk out without ruining the board (so I can insert x-fi card)?

Oh, and, any ideas on what to do with the card itself?

Ouch, that sucks. Try another cheap PCI card before you put in an X-fi, so you don't fry an expensive card.

Good idea, but I'd run some Electrical Conduit Cleaner through there first. Melted gold/brass off the Audigy could easily short out another card. Dentistry tools are very helpful if you know anybody who has them. (Be sure not to scratch the contacts, just the plastic that has been messed up.)

Is it likely that the pci port will work as normal after the melted material is gone? It looks like the card contact has brazed to the contact on the pci port.

Yea I'd recommend the same. Just leave the bad one alone and dont take a chance of frying your components.

you could give it a shot but definatly dont put another card in there unless you dont care about it because that slot is shot, if the comp runs fine now i would leave it alone perminatly

Yowzers! ***! That sucks...

As stated, a cleaning would be in order, though using the slot is questionable.

OW! That must really smart!
